Mullins, Oak Park handle Warren at Pontiac

Warren certainly hopes to avoid Justin Mullins for the remainder of the boys basketball season. An Oak Park-River Forest senior committed to the University of Denver, Mullins single-handedly derailed the Blue Devils with his all-around brilliance in first-round action of the iconic Pontiac Holiday Tournament Tuesday afternoon, as OPRF won 81-55.

Top-ranked Glenbard West defeated Bolingbrook 77-47 Friday in the Class 4A state boys basketball semifinals in Champaign. The Hilltoppers will take on Whitney Young in the state championship game at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Can anyone beat Glenbard West? It’ll be a tall task

The Illinois High School Association boys basketball tournament will feature a completely new look this weekend. The three-day, four-class system is part of the changes, with Saturday serving as a championship day for all four classes. In Class 4A, top-ranked Glenbard West, as well as Barrington are the local teams competing for a state championship.

Any accomplishment comes with a bit of adversity.Not many people at Monday’s Class 4A DeKalb supersectional gave Larkin a chance against top-ranked Glenbard West. Ahead by just three points at the halftime break, Hilltoppers senior Bobby Durkin knew his team needed a spark.

Another rim-rattling performance for Glenbard West

With 3:54 remaining in Glenbard West’s 68-41 victory over Wheaton Warrenville South in the Class 4A Bartlett sectional final, both sets of starters exited the floor. Glenbard West, a 34-1 juggernaut, soon lifted its first sectional title plaque since 2007.
