Belvidere North rallies past Kaneland

The Belvidere North girls basketball team came back from a seven-point halftime deficit to knock off Kaneland 39-36 in the Class 3A Rochelle regional semifinal Tuesday.

McKenzie Schueler drained a 3-pointer with less than two minutes left in the fourth quarter to break a tie and propel the Kaneland girls basketball team to a 39-34 win over La Salle-Peru in an Interstate 8 Conference battle Wednesday.

Playing for the first time since its first loss of the season, the Sycamore girls basketball team went off against Interstate 8 foe Kaneland on Tuesday, scoring 24 of the first 29 points and knocking off the Knights, 42-32.

Schueler comes up big as Kaneland dumps Yorkville

Lexi Schueler sat in the left corner near the baseline before catching a chest pass and drove fearlessly. The Kaneland sophomore guard, all of 5-foot-4, seemingly had no problem driving into heavy traffic and finishing with her left hand, plus making the ensuing free throw. It put an exclamation mark on Schueler’s 19 points during Kaneland’s 53-40 win over visiting Yorkville on Wednesday.

Sycamore rolls past Kaneland

Kaneland was at the free-throw line with a minute left in the first half and looking to eat into Sycamore’s 6-point lead before the break. By the time the half was up, the Spartans had their first double-digit lead of the game and never looked back in a 57-40 Interstate 8 Conference girls basketball win over the Knights Wednesday night.

From the opening tip Thursday, Lauren Slagle started to show signs of what she brings to the court for Geneva. Whether it was finding room for seven rebounds or using her 6-foot-1 length for 20 points in the paint in Geneva‘s 63-30 victory over Kaneland, the Vikings have yet another player to add to its list of contributors.

Carmel savors its first trip to state finals

Grace Sullivan and Mia Gillis formed an unbeatable combination on Monday night. Sullivan scored 16 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, dished out 4 assists and blocked 4 shots, while Gillis contributed 13 points and 12 rebounds to carry Carmel to a 49-37 victory over Sycamore in the Class 3A Dundee-Crown Supersectional.

Montini drops heartbreaker in sectional final to Sycamore

With 15 points in the fourth quarter alone, Shannon Blacher was leading Montini’s charge from 15 down in the final frame against Sycamore in the Class 3A Kaneland Sectional final.But her layup attempt at the buzzer in traffic didn’t fall and the Spartans held on for a 57-56 win for the first sectional title in school history.

Geneva gets revenge in thriller at Sycamore

Geneva’s 13-point lead with 5:33 left against Sycamore evaporated to two in the closing seconds as the Spartans seemed poised for a second comeback win against the Vikings this year.But Caroline Madden came up with a steal to keep the Spartans from tying or winning the game, then Rilee Hasegawa sunk a pair of free throws to seal a 62-58 win on Thursday in the regular-season finale for both teams.
