Held to 2 points in Stevenson’s regional final, Matthew Ambrose made up for it Tuesday night in the Class 4A Prospect sectional semifinals. The three-year varsity starter poured in a career-high 31 points and added 9 rebounds, as top-seeded Stevenson ousted No. 5 Zion-Benton 61-52.

Donovan Carter had an historic night and so did Wauconda’s basketball team. The second-seeded Bulldogs defeated No. 10 Belvidere 52-22 in a semifinal of the Class 3A Belvidere North regional on Tuesday, as Carter broke the school’s all-time single-season scoring record of 581 set in 1997 by John Lindsay.

Senior guard John Ittounas posted his first double-double, scoring a career-high 21 points and grabbing 10 rebounds, and Stevenson’s boys basketball team defeated visiting Lake Forest 46-31 on Wednesday night to clinch the North Suburban Conference championship outright.

One of the best and most prolific dunkers in Lake County during his days at Stevenson, Justin Smith keeps soaring and keeps raising his game at the college level. A 6-foot-7 junior for Indiana University, Smith is averaging 12.2 points and 5.4 rebounds per contest in helping the Hoosiers to a 14-4 record.
