Hare transfers from Bartlett to Naperville North

Naperville North is replacing one girls basketball All-Area Captain with another.

After graduating Greta Kampschroeder, last year's Daily Herald DuPage County All-Area Captain now at Oregon State, the Huskies will welcome the 2021 Daily Herald Fox All-Area Captain.

Kenzie Hare won that award last year after averaging 30.1 points in her junior season at Bartlett.

But Hare's family has moved to Naperville, and she will play her senior year at Naperville North.

"I've heard a lot of good things (about Naperville)," Hare said from Minnesota where her AAU team is playing this week. "I'm excited about the education and the area is super nice. Downtown Naperville is a super nice area. I'm kind of excited about everything."

The Hare's have a long history at Bartlett. Kenzie has been lighting up the nets since her freshman year, entering her senior season with 1,838 points - despite playing only 18 games in last year's COVID-shortened season.

Before Kenzie, her older sister Kayla Hare was a four-year starter and 1,000-point scorer at Bartlett.

That long history of success for a Hare at Bartlett makes this move bittersweet for Kenzie.

"Between us that was seven years," Kenzie said. "Definitely a lot of time we spent there and definitely enjoyed it so it's sad (leaving). But also super excited for this new school and everything."

Hare, who will play college basketball at St. Louis, did more than score this season at Bartlett. She averaged 5 assists, 4.3 steals and 4.1 rebounds a game.

Bartlett bounced back from early losses to Geneva, Neuqua Valley and Naperville North to finish 15-3, ending the season with an 11-game winning streak and its third straight Upstate Eight Conference title.

Hare does know one Huskie already, Sarah Crossett, a teammate during the AAU season with M14.
