McBride named new head coach at Hoffman Estates

Peter McBride has been named head boys basketball coach at Hoffman Estates High School. McBride, who has been the school's head sophomore boys basketball coach, takes over the program from Luke Yanule, who is stepping down after 10 years as the Hawks' head coach.

"We are thrilled that Coach McBride will be leading our basketball program," said Hoffman Estates Principal Michael Alther. "Coach McBride has an enormous amount of energy and enthusiasm to share with our student-athletes. He is well-respected by our students and parents, as well as the basketball community, and he knows what it takes to lead a successful program."

McBride has been the Hawks' sophomore boys basketball coach since 2020. Prior to that, he served as the sophomore boys basketball coach at Schaumburg High School from 2018-2020, with an overall record of 27-25, while also serving as an assistant varsity coach at the school. The 2018-2019 Saxon varsity team posted an overall record of 23-7 and was regional champions, and the 2019-2020 team finished 25-7 as Mid-Suburban League champs.

During the 2017-2018 season, McBride was an assistant varsity boys basketball coach for St. Charles East, also coaching the junior varsity squad to an 8-0 record.

McBride served as a graduate assistant men's basketball coach at North Park University for the 2016-2017 season, helping the team to an 18-8 record, its best mark in 30 years, along with a share of the conference title and the team's first appearance in the conference tournament in school history.

McBride began his coaching career at Maine East High School in 2012, coaching freshman boys basketball (2012-2013), and then serving as an assistant varsity boys basketball coach (2013-2016).

"We feel Coach McBride is a great fit for us," said Hoffman Estates Athletic Director Steve Lacni. "Having served as an assistant coach this past year helped him gain familiarity with our program and our student-athletes. We're not only excited about the expertise he brings to our program, but also the enthusiasm he has for the kids and the sport."

McBride earned both his bachelor's degree (elementary education with middle school endorsements/minors in mathematics and Spanish) in 2012, and his master's degree (education) in 2017 from North Park University. McBride has been an ESL teacher at Hoffman Estates High School since 2018. He began his teaching career at Thomas Jefferson Middle School in Waukegan as a mathematics teacher (2012-2014) before moving to Haven Middle School in Evanston as a mathematics teacher (2014-2016).
