Hampshire's Bannerman out for at least two weeks

Hampshire senior forward Kelby Bannerman, a Davidson commit, left her team's Fox Valley Conference game against Crystal Lake Central on Friday with an injury when she landed awkwardly on her right foot.

Bannerman received an MRI and was diagnosed with a high ankle sprain, Hampshire coach Eric Samuelson said Monday.

She was unable to play in Saturday's game against Sycamore but traveled with the team for support. Bannerman averaged 16.4 points and 10.8 rebounds a game for the Whip-Purs a year ago.

Samuelson confirmed Monday that Bannerman's injury will keep her sidelined for at least two weeks. It's possible that she will sit out the remainder of the shortened season, Samuelson said.

"We need to look at her long-term health and do what's right for her," Samuelson said. "I'm proud of her for being a leader. She was at practice [Monday morning] with the team, helping out.

"I've always asked her, 'What kind of legacy do you want to leave?' From freshman year to now, I couldn't be more proud of her. She's a great teammate and a great leader, and she's just trying to stay positive."
