Sarvis, Seyller propel Burlington Central over Huntley

A great start and staving off all and any Huntley runs.

Those ingredients were enough to produce a 54-41 win for Burlington Central in Fox Valley Conference boys basketball action in Huntley Friday night.

Propelled by 9 points from Carson Seyller, the Rockets (2-0, 2-0) jumped out to a 13-2 lead with 2:44 left in the first quarter. During that stretch, Seyller was 4-of-5 from the floor with a 3-pointer.

"We knew Huntley is a very talented team and we had to come out ready to compete," said Burlington Central coach Brett Porto. "We executed and Carson got some shots in the paint early I liked the way we got the free-throw line, Without any summer workouts, I like the way we have started the season."

Huntley (1-1, 1-1), which never took the lead in the game, rebounded from a slow start and got to within 15-14 on a 3 by Seth Kardys with 6:08 left in the first half.

Led by 8 second quarter points from Gavin Sarvis the Rockets led 28-23 at halftime.

In the second half, Central's 6-0 run to start the fourth quarter, gave the visitors a 46-32 lead with 6:25 remaining.

Sarvis, 8-of-11 from the free-throw line and 6-of-8 from the field, led the Rockets with 20 points and 9 rebounds.

"It was nice to get off such a strong start," said Sarvis. "Carson got us going early. I was able to get to the basket and to the free-throw line. We wanted to contest their shots and give them only 1 shot. It is nice to start 2-0."

Sarvis received help from his friends as Seyller scored 12 with 4 assists while Nick Carpenter scored 9, all in the second half, and Zac Schmidt tallied 7 with 5 rebounds and 3 assists.

Aiden Wieczorek paced the Raiders with 11 points while Kardys scored 9 on 3 treys.

Huntley, 11-of-35 from the field for 31 percent, connected on 5-of-20 from beyond the arc for 25 percent. The Red Raiders committed 12 turnovers, 6 in each half.

"Burlington Central is a well-coached athletic team," said Huntley coach Will Benson. "They were relentless for 32 minutes. We were relentless for some of that time. They were very physical. We had some open looks but they played good defense and contested our shots. They were the better team tonight."
