Barrington handles Hoffman Estates

Barrington coach Bryan Tucker realizes the value of three-year starter Damian Zivak.

The steady senior forward poured in 11 points with 4 assists to lead Barrington to a 44-26 boys basketball win over Hoffman Estates in Mid-Suburban West action in Barrington Tuesday night.

"Damian has been through the battles," said Tucker. "With so many juniors on the team he is a great leader who understands the game."

Spivak is happy to have a season.

'The season looked hopeless," said Spivak. "We organized some outdoor workouts and tried to be ready. We have a lot of juniors playing. They are very disciplined and a pleasure to play with."

The Broncos (2-0) defense was on display especially in the first quarter when they held the Hawks (0-2) without a point. Hoffman Estates was 0-for-8 from the field with 6 turnovers during the initial 8 minutes.

Paced by 5 points from Nate Boldt and a 3-pointer from Jason Skogh the Broncos jumped out to a 13-0 advantage after 8 minutes of play.

"We had too many turnovers, forced and unforced," said Hoffman Estates coach Luke Yanule. "We had some good looks but you have knock one down."

Barrington's biggest lead was 39-16 after a 3 by Skogh with 1:28 left in the third quarter.

Hoffman Estates could only manage 11 baskets in 45 attempts 24 percent. The Hawks connected on only 2-of-10 from beyond the arc for 20 percent.

"We got off to a good start defensively," said Tucker. "We contained the drive and the passing lanes. "

Following Zivak in scoring was Skogh and junior Will Grudzinski with 9 points each. Skogh drilled two 3-pointers while Grudzinski added 8 rebounds and a resounding dunk.

Mike Vuckovic added led Hoffman Estates with 9 points while Nick Vuckovic scored 8 for the Hawks.

"I am just happy we are playing," said Yanule. "I am seeing growth over the first two games."
