The Daily Herald Fox All-Area Girls Basketball Team

Kelby Bannerman, Hampshire

Three-time All-Area selection has increased numbers every year, going from 10.5 ppg as a freshman to 12.3 last year and now 16.4 this season plus an area-best 10.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.7 blocks. The 6-foot-1 junior holds scholarship offers from Davidson, Illinois State, Bradley and Indiana State among others. "Kelby has come a long way in the past three years," Hampshire coach Eric Samuelson said. "She has become a more complete player. Kelby's so talented that her college offers are going to continue to come from playing with and against the best competition in all of AAU. So what we need her to do at the high school level is to continue working on being the most selfless teammate and leader she can be. Being incredibly coachable and excelling at servant leadership should be her goals as a senior. Those will translate well at the next level."

Brooke Biggins

Brooke Biggins, St. Edward

This sophomore guard averaged 14.9 points per game, 2.5 steals and 3.5 rebounds. Hit 122 out of 157 free throws for 78 percent. All-tournament selection at Lisle over Christmas and all-conference. "She was an offensive threat that our opponent always needed to worry about," St. Edward coach Michelle Dawson said. "Brooke likes to drive to the basket and create shots for herself and her teammates but this season she also put a lot of effort in improving her outside shot as well. Her quickness and athleticism create opportunities for our team to get defensive stops leading to transition opportunities. We expect there are great things to come for both her and our team."

Lindsay Blackmore

Lindsay Blackmore, Geneva

This two-time All-Area pick and two-time state champion suffered a tough-luck end to a stellar high school career when she broke her wrist in the regionals. Before that Blackmore averaged a team-best 16.5 points per game while leading the Vikings to a share of the DuKane Conference championship. Went over 1,000 points this season. Averaged 7.6 rebounds, 1.3 blocks and 1.7 steals while shooting 46.7 percent from the field and 76 percent at the line. Will play at Colgate next year. A key reserve on Geneva's 2017 and 2018 state championship teams. "Crazy that she is done at Geneva High School," Geneva coach Sarah Meadows said. "I was just watching our state games when she was a freshman. She has grown so much as a player. It has been great to watch her step into her own and make her name known. She has been a wonderful leader and example for everyone to follow. She gave everything she had to Geneva girls basketball."

Launi Chanthaboury

Launi Chanthaboury, St. Charles North

This senior point guard returned from a knee injury that kept her sidelined last season to average a team-best 13 points. Shot 70 percent at the free-throw line (61 for 87) and 34 percent from the 3-point arc, making 53. Got better as the year went on, averaging 18.5 ppg over her final nine. Also had 65 steals, 62 assists and 43 blocks. "Launi left her mark on North Star basketball in her senior year," St. Charles North coach Mike Tomczak said. "Our leader on and off the court, she inspired her teammates with her work ethic, toughness and overwhelmingly positive attitude. Launi carried her team for the last month of the season. Her grit, determination and clutch performance will leave a void in our program that will be impossible to fill. If Launi's varsity basketball career was a story, her ending was close to perfect."

Alyssa Crenshaw

Alyssa Crenshaw, Dundee-Crown

Always a hard-nosed player around the basket, this junior continued doing that while showing improved ability to knock down jumpers and find her teammates. One of those shots, an 18-footer, came in the final 90 seconds to beat Barrington and win a sectional championship. Crenshaw also led her team to the Fox Valley Conference title, averaging 15.2 points, 9 rebounds and 2 steals a game shooting 50 percent from the field and 78.3 percent at the free-throw line on 175 attempts. Two-time All-Area selection also took on opponent's best player defensively while relentlessly pulling down rebounds on both ends. "She's a special kid," Dundee-Crown coach Sarah Miller said. "She's just everywhere. She does so many little things. You sometimes don't see with great players such an all-around game."

Erin Golden

Erin Golden, Batavia

Batavia coach Kevin Jensen couldn't have offered much higher praise for this three-time All-Area selection. "I told Erin that she gets to go down as one of the best ever to play at Batavia High School. She goes down as one of the best players we have ever had," Jensen said. Golden, a senior guard who can do absolute everything on the basketball court - as evidenced the last three years by leading her team in scoring, rebounding and assists - scored over 1,200 career points to finish top five all-time at the school. This season the McKendree University recruit averaged 15.1 points, 7.1 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.1 steals shooting 78% at the line.

Anna Griffin

Anna Griffin, Aurora Christian

This junior transfer from Plainfield Central couldn't have made a bigger impact at Aurora Christian, leading the Eagles to the Class 1A state tournament for the first time while setting a school single-season scoring record (641 points) averaging 17.8 points per game. Had a double-double in both games at state, making Class 1A All-State. Also tournament MVP at the Blue Devils Holiday Classic and co-MVP of the MSC Red. Holds 15 Division I offers. Also averaged 10.4 rebounds, 3.3 steals and 2.7 assists while shooting 44% from the field and 75% at the free-throw line. "Anna helped take the program to the next level," AC coach Burney Wilkie said. "She is dominant on both ends of the floor. Anna is the type of talent every coach dreams of having at some point. The impact she has made on our program will be felt for years to come."

Mackenzie Hare

Mackenzie Hare, Bartlett

Only a sophomore and already with 1,296 career points, this two-time All-Area choice started the season with 43 points against Fenton - and didn't slow down from there, twice hitting eight 3-pointers in a game. "The first word that comes to mind when thinking about Kenzie Hare is 'playmaker,'" Bartlett coach Kristi Ragain said. "She's without a doubt one of the best 3-point shooters in the state, but her ability to get to the rim, create shots for her teammates, and utilize her length on defense, along with her basketball IQ makes her an incredible player." Scored 725 points averaging 22 a game, made 119 3s on 48% shooting, hit 78% of her free throws and averaged 7.2 rebounds. "Kenzie's game will continue to develop and grow this summer, because that is the type of player she is, and that's how big this kid's dreams are. She's not done yet ... not even close," Ragan said.

Torrie Kortan

Torrie Kortan, St. Charles East

This sophomore point guard led the Saints in scoring at 10.6 points per game, getting to the free-throw line 112 times and shooting 68.7%. Also averaged 3.4 assists, 4.8 rebounds and was a pest on defense with 3 steals a game. Team MVP and all-DuKane Conference. "Torrie has made a name for herself throughout the area as a player teams target," Saints coach Aubree Schuett said. "Her defensive and rebounding efforts set her apart from others with similar offensive skill sets. Her competitive nature, work ethic and drive will continue to push her forward to accomplish her long term goals. She's a great teammate and I look forward to her fulfilling a leadership role as an upperclassman next season."

Delani Kosner

Delani Kosner, Aurora Central Catholic

A three-time All-Area choice, this senior leaves as the school's all-time leading scorer after averaging 16.2 points a game to finish her career with 1,417 points. She also averaged 3.7 assists, 2.1 steals, 5 rebounds and 1.6 blocks this season. Will play next year at Kirkwood Community College. "One thing I will truly say about Delani this year is she stepped up her leadership role," Chargers coach LeVada Smith said. "In years past she was not always vocal. This year you could see her motiving her teammates a lot more and guide them in the right direction on the floor when needed." Smith also liked the way she responded to being the opposition's No. 1 target. "Everyone knew who to try to stop on this team," Smith said. "Night in and night out she was up for the challenge."

Thaya Luse

Thaya Luse, Aurora Christian

The sophomore post averaged 13.1 points and 9.1 rebounds a game for an Aurora Christian team that finished 30-6 and took fourth in the state in Class 1A. On pace to become the first player in school history to reach 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds and might get there by her junior season. "Thaya had the breakout season that I predicted at the start of the year," Aurora Christian coach Burney Wilkie said. "Her motor is incredible. I love how hard she plays for us. She is a huge reason we have had so much success this year. I have not seen a tougher kid in all of Illinois and we are incredibly lucky to have her for another two years."

Maddy Martin

Maddy Martin, Harvest Christian

This senior helped the Lions revive their program after playing the 2018-19 season with just six players. She averaged an area-best 22.1 points, making 85 of 127 free throws (67%). Pulled down 8.0 rebounds a game, shot 52% on her 2-point field goals and made 28 from the 3-point arc. Also averaged 18.7 points last year to make All-Area as a junior. Will play at McHenry County College. "Maddy was a tremendous player for us this year," Harvest coach Jeremy Burke said. "She was a great teammate on the court, an extremely hard worker, and always strived to make her teammates better. She will be missed next year and I can't wait to see her continue her success next year in college."

Megan McClure

Megan McClure, South Elgin

This senior who will play at North Central College next year is a natural guard who ended up battling inside and averaging 8 rebounds a game because of her team's lack of size. "A coach's dream who leaves her heart on the court every game," Storm coach Dan Manderanck said. "Plays out of position on defense because we are so small guarding girls way taller. Boxed in one a lot and still performed at an all-area level." Also All-Area as a junior, McClure averaged 15.8 points, 3 assists and 2 steals a game for the 22-10 Storm.

Mandy Mien

Mandy Mien, Streamwood

Repeat All-Area selection, the four-year starter at point guard leaves as one of the best ever to play for the Sabres. Averaged 14.5 points a game this year to finish with 1,368 - fourth most at the school. She's Stremwood's all-time leader in assists (542), steals (286) and 10th in rebounding (486). Showed her leadership this season helping an inexperienced team that started 0-8 win 12 games. "One great career at Streamwood High School," Sabres coach George Rosner said. "The best pure point guard to ever play at Streamwood. She was a joy to watch each and every game."

Riley Mont

Riley Mont, West Aurora

This sophomore played in only 15 of 30 games because of a stress fracture in her foot but averaged 18.4 points, 2.3 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 3 assists while making 37 shots from the 3-point arc and 72 of 108 free throws (67%). And her defense was even better than all that offense. "Riley's defense is the best I've seen in my 20 years of coaching at the high school level," West Aurora coach Teresa Waldinger said. "She is precise, quick and perfect in her positioning. She was our go-to against any tough player. Offensively, she is aggressive minded, and she looks to attack the basket or take an open shot, both of which helped us in key situations. Seeing what she did in only half the season amazes me. I am excited to see what she'll do in these next two years."

Kamsi Nwogu

Kamsi Nwogu, Huntley

Three-year starter, two-time All-Area selection, this junior forward averaged a team-best 14.8 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.6 steals as Huntley won 20 games and its first regional championship in four years. Scored her 1,000th career point in January at DeKalb's MLK Tournament. "She's been a very consistent scorer for our team," Huntley coach Steve Raethz said. "Kamsi has shown a lot of versatility in her game, and she has continued to show improvement in her game each season. We are excited to have her back for another year."

Kate Palmer

Kate Palmer, Geneva

The second-leading scorer on a Geneva team that shared the DuKane Conference championship and won its 12th straight regional crown, this junior guard averaged 14 points per game. Made 48 3-pointers and 75% of her free throws. Also played stellar defense averaging 1.8 steals. "She has and is maturing right in front of our eyes," Geneva coach Sarah Meadows said. "She had an awesome year for us. She stepped up in big moments and proved herself this year to everyone. She continues to work on her game and gets better and better. She is a competitor in every way. Any challenge in front of her she goes after it and wants it."

Kathryn Schmidt

Kathryn Schmidt, Burlington Central

A rare four-time All-Area selection, Schmidt leaves as the school's all-time leading scorer with 1,697 points. Averaged 16 points and 7.7 rebounds shooting 44 percent from the field and 81 percent at the line. Scored 29 points in a sectional loss to Sycamore and hit buzzer-beater to hand Dundee-Crown its only FVC defeat. Will play at Lewis University next year. "Kat is such a well-rounded player," Rockets coach Collin Kalamatas said. "Whether it's making the extra pass to get it to an open teammate, grabbing a rebound, or knocking down a big shot, she always seemed to be around making an impact on the game on just about every possession. For someone that struggled with so many different injuries in the past 15 months, I'm really proud of how she came back from all of that and had the senior year that she had. She's the perfect role model for the younger girls in our program."

Lexie Sinclair

Lexie Sinclair, Bartlett

This junior, last year's Fox All-Area captain and a three-time All-Area selection, capped her season with 32 points in a regional loss to Lake Park. "Big-time players make big plays in big games," Bartlett coach Kristi Ragan said. Broke school record with 13 assists vs. West Chicago. Averaged 19 ppg, an area-best 6.9 assists and 5 rebounds for Upstate Eight champs. "Lexie's ability to score and finish through contact in the paint, spot up and knock down a 3-pointer, as well as break any sort of pressure a team throws at our offense, unquestionably makes her a player that other teams hate to play against," Ragan said. "She brings a quickness, physicality and fierceness to each and every game."

Elana Wells

Elana Wells, Burlington Central

Three-time All-Area selection, this electric junior point guard helped the Rockets to a 29-5 season in their first year in the Fox Valley Conference. Averaged 17.2 points, 3 assists and 3 steals shooting 46% from field, 67% at the line and hitting 76 3-pointers. "There might not be more than one or two girls in the area that are more dynamic," Rockets coach Collin Kalamatas said. "She has an explosive dribble attack that is complemented by a deadly outside shot that extends to as deep as 25 feet. She's an absolute nightmare to match up with. Scoring point guards always get a reputation for being a little selfish. I don't see it that way. I see it as she's a talented basketball player that happens to have the ball in her hands more because she's a point guard. She attacks the rim with a lot of confidence and we wouldn't have it any other way. I've never coached a kid that's more competitive than Elana Wells."
