Historic night for Carter, Wauconda
Donovan Carter had a historic night and so did Wauconda's basketball team.
The Bulldogs defeated No. 10 Belvidere 52-22 in a semifinal of the Class 3A Belvidere North regional on Tuesday, as Carter broke the school's all-time single-season scoring record of 581 set in 1997 by John Lindsay.
Carter's 17 points give him 583 for the season.
With its 21st win, Wauconda tied the school record. The second-seeded Bulldogs (21-7) are the third team in program history to notch 21 victories. They seek their first regional championship in school history when they play No. 3 Belvidere North at 7 p.m. Friday.
Nick Bulgarelli added 13 points for Wauconda, and Garrison Carter had a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Grayslake Central 35, Antioch 32
At St. Patrick, in a Class 3A regional semifinal, the seventh-seeded Rams beat the 10th-seeded Sequoits for the third time this season.
Grayslake Central (18-13) will play No. 2 St. Patrick for the regional title at 7 p.m. Friday.
Antioch finished 13-17.
Stevenson 33, Lake Zurich 21
At Stevenson, the top-seeded Patriots outlasted the 16th-seeded Bears in the Class 4A regional semifinal.
Stevenson (26-4) will play No. 9 Highland Park in the regional final at 7 p.m. Friday.
Lake Zurich finished 9-21.
