Aurora Christian wins 1st sectional game

For the first time in seven tries, Aurora Christian's girls basketball team has won a sectional game.

The Eagles did it in convincing fashion Monday with a 52-19 victory over St. Bede in the Class 1A Putnam County sectional semifinals. The game was never in doubt with Aurora Christian outscoring St. Bede 21-0 in the first quarter.

The Eagles (28-4) advance to the Sweet 16 and the sectional championship game Thursday night against Gardner-South Wilmington, a 41-40 winner over Newark.

Junior Anna Griffin broke Aurora Christian's single season scoring record. She scored 17 points Monday and currently has 551 points this season.

Aspen Weeks led Aurora Christian with 19 points. Thaya Luse added 9.
