Lake Park blows past Fremd

There is nothing like shooting at your own rims. Just ask Lake Park's boys basketball team.

The Lancers (21-6), who could be the top seed in the Class 4A Addison Trail sectional, were nearly unconscious at times. They hit 70 percent (14-of-20) of their early shots as they bolted to a 37-13 early in the third quarter and never looked back in beating Fremd 59-31 Saturday at Lake Park's Camp Horseshoe Shootout.

"We have really been on a roll lately," Lake Park coach Billy Pitcher said. "I think it is attributed to our unselfishness and our patience. We work. We rarely come down the floor and take the first shot. And we try to get the right guys to shoot the 3."

The Lancers targeted the right people against Fremd.

Led by Luke Sgarbossa, who had four 3-pointers, Lake Park shot 7-of-13 outside the arc.

"It was nice for a change," said Sgarbossa, who finished with 20 points. "I have been kind of in a slump shooting the 3s. It was great to get back to it. Everything was going in and the rim looked huge."

Trevor Montiel added 15 points for the Lancers. Montrell Perry, Joey Czaja and Drew Myers each chipped in 6 points.

"We didn't play our best defensively," Fremd coach Bob Widlowski said. "But they did hit some tough shots there. They got on a roll there and we got stuck on a number."

Fremd was led by Max Wexley, who had 7 points and Matt Wingen, who had 6 points.
