Libertyville holds off Carmel, win streak hits 20

Margaret Buchert scored a game-high 19 points, and Libertyville's girls basketball team stretched its winning to 20 games with a 46-38 nonconference win over host Carmel Catholic on Monday night.

Lydia Crow added 14 points for Libertyville (24-4), which led 14-9 after one quarter and 26-20 at halftime. Carmel (18-10) got within 37-34 after three, before being outscored 9-4 in the fourth. Crow scored 4 points, including her third 3-pointer of the game, in the fourth.

“Carmel has a lot of size,” Libertyville coach Greg Pedersen said. “They made a great run in the second half. We were able to keep our composure and finish the game.”

Grace Sullivan and Jordan Wood scored 11 and 10 points, respectively, for Carmel, which honored seniors Katie Lach, Kaytlyn Matz and Becca Curley.

Grant 66, Crystal Lake South 51: Jazzlyn Linbo's 17 points led three players in double figures for the host Bulldogs in their nonconference win.

Grant (16-13) also received 15 points from Kaitlyn Flader and 13 from MaCalyn Flores. Flader and Flores each hit three 3-pointers. Kylie Whyte contributed 8 points for the Bulldogs, who won for the fourth times in five games.

Waukegan 44, Round Lake 33: Lilli Burton and Ariea Williams each scored 9 points for the visiting Panthers in their nonconference loss.

Round Lake fell to 9-21 with its third loss in a row.

Zion-Benton 51, Lake Zurich 37: The visiting Bears dropped their fifth straight in the North Suburban Conference game.

Alayna Soukup scored 16 points to lead Lake Zurich (14-13, 7-6).
