Myers, Lake Park rally to top Wheaton North

Drew Myers didn't enter the game until the second half, and he left a lone mark in the scorebook with a third-quarter 3-pointer.

But his presence was felt everywhere in the second half.

The senior guard's defense sparked Lake Park's boys basketball team to a fourth-quarter rally and a 48-42 victory over Wheaton North in Tuesday's DuKane Conference game in Roselle.

The Lancers (18-5, 6-3) trailed 42-40 with 4:46 left in the fourth quarter after Emanuel Wilson hit his second 3-pointer for Wheaton North. Lake Park proceeded to hold the Falcons (10-12, 2-7) scoreless the rest of the game.

"We can do that every single game, it's if we want to or not," Myers said. "We know if we play our game we can win. We just fought and stuck to our game."

Lake Park senior forward Trevor Montiel scored his team's final 8 points in the last 2:39, including 6-of-7 free-throw shooting. The Lancers led 44-42 when Myers drew a charge with 25 seconds left.

Montiel missed the front end of a 1-and-1, but the Falcons were whistled for a travel on the rebound. Montiel, who scored a game-high 19 points, sank four straight from the line to seal it.

"I thought we played really well on the road again," said Falcons coach Dave Brackmann, whose team is ending a stretch of seven straight road games. "We've just got to keep plugging away against all these good teams. We don't necessarily match up well with all of them, but we're battling."

Wilson scored 14 points to lead Wheaton North, which rallied from a 22-12 deficit late in the second quarter. Ben Bonga added 12 points.

Luke Sgarbossa tallied 11 points for the Lancers, who travel to St. Charles North (17-5, 8-1) on Friday for a huge DKC matchup.

"They weren't going to make a mistake, we had to beat them," said Lancers coach Billy Pitcher. "I give them a ton of credit for how hard they play. They make it so hard for us, but we were able to grind it out."
