Lake Zurich avoids upset, outlasts Grayslake North in OT

Lake Zurich's girls basketball team needed overtime to avoid an upset against host Grayslake North in nonconference action on Thursday night.

The Bears prevailed 44-43 to improve to 14-8.

Peyton Gerdes scored 16 points to lead Grayslake North (8-17), which lost its sixth straight. Jayden Curtis had 11 points for the Knights.

"I'm so proud of how hard our girls played," Grayslake North coach Roger Lass said. "Lake Zurich is a very good team and we battled the entire game and had a shot that rimmed out at the buzzer to win. Great defensive effort that we can build on going forward."

Grayslake Central 52, Prairie Ridge 27: Kate Bullman led all scorers with 21 points, and the visiting Rams won the nonconference game for their 13th win in a row.

MK Drevline added 11 points for Grayslake Central (21-3), which hosts Wauconda at 7 p.m. Saturday in a Northern Lake County Conference showdown.

Loyola 47, Lake Forest 34: Halle Douglass had 10 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists for the Scouts, who fell to 19-8 with the nonconference loss.

Antioch 46, Grant 43: On Wednesday night, the host Sequoits rallied from a 23-19 deficit at halftime to win the Northern Lake County Conference game.

Avery Larson put up 10 points and grabbed 8 rebounds to lead Antioch (10-13, 5-5) in both categories. Molly Volkmar was right behind her with 9 points, including a 3-pointer, and added 5 assists. Faith Miller and Gianna Riforgiato each scored 8 points. Riforgiato also had 6 rebounds, and Miller nabbed 5 steals.

Jazzlyn Linbo scored 15 points for Grant (12-12, 6-4), which lost its fifth game in a row. Kaitlyn Flader had 9 points for the Bulldogs.
