St. Viator's Bergstrom gets career-high 29 points in ESCC win

Sophomore Joy Bergstrom netted a career-high 29 points as St. Viator earned a 52-41 triumph over Marian Central in an East Suburban Catholic Conference girls basketball game on Wednesday night in Woodstock.

The sophomore guard also had 7 rebounds, 3 steals and 1 blocked shot as the Lions raised their record to 2-1 in the ESCC and 8-13 overall.

Classmate Nora Ahram added 10 points, 6 assists and 2 rebounds for the Lions while junior Aubrey Horbach chipped in 5 points, 2 rebounds and 1 assist.

Elk Grove 51, Jacobs 47: The visiting Grenadiers improved to 15-9 as Lili Duckmann (20 points), Alyssa Trausch (9) and Megan Murray (6) led the way in the nonconference win.

Leyden 60, Niles North 38: Leyden improved to 10-14 with the nonconference win in Skokie.

"I'm so proud of these kids and their work ethic," said Eagles coach Stephanie Kuzmanic. "Our team chemistry is really coming along and it's fun to watch."

One night earlier, the Eagles notched a 33-30 win over Maine East. Junior Becky Colmenares scored 14 points.

Senior teammate Evelyn Abundes had a big 3-pointer in the fourth quarter and was 4-of-4 from the free-throw line in the last minute of nonconference game.
