Hersey gets past Elk Grove on Senior Night

Led by freshman Katy Eidle's game-high 23 points on Senior Night, Hersey's girls basketball team improved to 20-6 and 6-1 in the Mid-Suburban East with a 70-41 win over visiting Elk Grove on Friday night.

Other top scorers for the Huskies were Mary McGrath (10 points), Jolene Carlquist (9) and Avery Larson (8).

Julia Masnica (9 points), Lili Duckmann (9) and Alyssa Trausch (7) paced the Grenadiers (12-9, 2-5).

Barrington 39, Palatine 34: Barrington improved to 16-8 and 6-1 in the Mid-Suburban West as Taylor Thompson (12 points, 13 points) and Laura Mahlum (10 points) and Sophie Swanson (7) led the way.

Mahlum was 4-of-4 from the free-throw line in the final two minutes to help the Fillies seal the deal.

"I thought Katie Tomczyk came in and had some key buckets for us," said Barrington coach Babbi Barreiro. "I give Palatine a lot of credit. They played a hard defensive game. I was proud of our kids to be able to rally in the fourth quarter."

Madi Stark (8 points) and Olivia Radtke (7) led host Palatine (11-12, 2-4).

Maine West 72, Niles North 21: Angela Dugalic, who was recently named to the McDonald's All-American team, scored 18 points with 3 blocks and 4 rebounds as the host Warriors improved to 19-3 and 8-0.

Brianna Hernandez added 11 points and 3 steals while Dylan Van Fleet, Jade Thomas and Lena Albo each chipped in 8 points.

Fremd 58, Lakeway Christian (TN) 48: Playing in the Raetz Fence/O'Shea's Basketball Classic at Mercy Academy High School in Louisville (KY), the Vikings raised their record to 16-5.

Olivia Hill (13 points), Ruthie Montella (13), Grace LaBarge (12) and Emily Klaczek (12) led the MSL West leaders.

Christian Liberty 42, Westminster Christian 21: The Chargers improved to 21-3 and 6-0 in the Northeastern Conference as Julia Wolke (17 points) and Audrey Law (9) led the way.

Maine South 74, Glenbrook North 44: Maine South improved to 20-5 and 6-2 in the CSL South.
