Round Lake's McNeal posts 29 and 19

A monster game from Deveauntay McNeal couldn't prevent Round Lake's boys basketball team from losing to Willowbrook 72-60 in the seventh-place game of Lake Zurich's MLK tournament on Monday morning.

McNeal scored 29 points, grabbed 19 rebounds and dished out 4 assists. The 6-foot-3 junior shot 9 of 19 from the floor (2 of 2 from three-point range) and 9 of 12 from the free-throw line.

Everett Stubblefield scored 36 points (three 3s) for Willowbrook, shooting 15 of 28 from the floor and 3 of 5 from the stripe.

Hakim Williams added 15 points (three 3-pointers) for Round Lake (13-7), which lost its third game in a row. Jamirh Jones had 12 points for the Panthers.

Wauconda 78, Rowe-Clark 50: At Niles North, Donovan Carter posted 29 points, including four 3-pointers, and 12 rebounds, and the Bulldogs concluded the Deerfield/Niles North tournament with a win.

Jake Shanholtzer had 10 points and 7 rebounds for Wauconda (12-5). The Bulldogs' other contributors included Nick Bulgarelli (6 points, 8 assists), Garrison Carter (8 points, 7 rebounds) and Ghazi Hopkins (8 points, two 3s).

Stevenson 64, West Aurora 30: At Geneva's MLK Day of Hoops, Matthew Ambrose scored a season-high 22 points and grabbed 6 rebounds for the Patriots.

John Ittounas added 18 points for Stevenson (15-3), which has won all four of its games in January. RJ Holmes contributed 10 points and 9 rebounds.

Wheaton-Warrenville South 52, Warren 34: At Wheaton-Warrenville South, the Blue Devils lost to the host school in the third-place game of the MLK tournament. It was the second day of the day for Warren (7-11) and fourth in three days.

The Blue Devils had only three players score, led by Adnan Sarancic, who had 17 points. Jason Langevin and Juan De La Cruz had 9 and 8 points, respectively.

Benet Academy 54, Warren 39: At Wheaton-Warrenville South, the Blue Devils lost their semifinal game in the MLK tournament.

Seamus Mellican and Alexander Figueroa scored 9 and 8 points, respectively, for Warren (7-10).

Mather 50, Vernon Hills 45: The visiting Rangers came from behind in the fourth quarter to win the nonconference matinee.

Jack Barszcz led all scorers with 24 points for Vernon Hills (8-11), which hosts Lake Forest on Tuesday night.

Grayslake North 62, Lakes 39: At Lakes, the Knights knocked off their Northern Lake County Conference rival in their MLK tournament finale.

Grayslake North (5-10), which snapped a four-game losing streak, placed Jamon Thomas on the all-tournament team.

Branden Nava represented Lakes (6-13) on the all-tournament team.

Grayslake North led 24-23 at halftime and then outscored the Eagles 16-6 in the third quarter and 22-10 in the fourth.
