Lakes tops Grayslake North

Rosie Tekampe and CC Fleming each scored 12 points, and Lakes' girls basketball team defeated host Grayslake North 45-38 in Northern Lake County Conference action on Friday night.

Kendall Phelan and Grace Sullivan added 7 points apiece for the Eagles (3-14, 2-5).

"We made shots tonight, and that feels good," Lakes coach Brian Phelan said. "We played well on both ends of the court. Second half, we were connected on the defensive end of the court. We are getting better and I'm so happy for the girls, as they are working hard all the time."

Grayslake North fell to 8-12 and 3-4.

North Chicago 48, Round Lake 43: Lilli Burton led the host Panthers with 12 points in the Northern Lake County Conference game.

Amari Cole had 11 points for Round Lake (3-17, 1-6).

Palatine 41, Mundelein 25: The host Mustangs dropped the nonconference game, despite Morgan Frank's double-double.

Frank had 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Allison Binz collected 7 points and 6 rebounds for Mundelein (4-15).

Vernon Hills 54, Highland Park 45: Freshman center Grace Koepke scored 16 points, as the visiting Cougars won the Central Suburban League North Division game.

Daniella Jarrell added 11 points for Vernon Hills (11-8, 5-2)

"We got out of the gate a little slow, but the middle quarters were very good for us," Vernon Hills coach Paul Brettner said. "In the fourth quarter we made enough free throws to finish the game."
