Szmajda scores 26 as Wauconda wins big

Kiley Szmajda had 26 points, 7 rebounds and 5 blocked shots, and Wauconda's girls basketball team defeated host North Chicago 70-37 in Northern Lake County Conference action on Friday night.

Ella Karg added 11 points and 9 assists for Wauconda (10-5, 3-2).

"The girls executed the offense and passed the ball well," Bulldogs coach Jaime Dennis said. "Kiley had a great game, shooting 80% from the floor. It was nice to see [Audrey] Deaver [7 points] and [Karly] Pikel [6 points] score some points for us. Everyone was able to get in the game and make contributions."

Grayslake Central 73, Round Lake 22: Kate Bullman's 20 points led three players in double figures, as the host Rams remained undefeated in the Northern Lake County Conference.

Amanda Kocialkowski and MK Drevline added 19 and 14 points, respectively, for Grayslake Central (15-3, 5-0).

Lilli Burton and Ariea Williams each had 9 points for Round Lake (3-14, 1-4).

Maine West 53, Vernon Hills 22: Emmy Woodrow scored 6 points on a pair of 3-pointers for the Cougars, who fell to 9-8 and 3-2 in the Central Suburban League North Division.
