Dundee-Crown stays hot, knocks off Jacobs
Doug Miller basically willed his Dundee-Crown team to victory Friday at Jacobs.
Miller scored 11 of his game-high 20 points in the fourth quarter as the Chargers nipped Jacobs 44-39 in a District 300 Fox Valley Conference game.
"My teammates did a great job of getting me the ball in great position to score," said Miller. "They set some great screens and I had open looks.
"It was a great team win. We played great defense all night and did a good job of getting them in foul trouble. In the fourth quarter we had stop, score, stop, score."
D-C coach Lance Huber praised Miller.
"Doug hit a huge 3 and then got fouled on a 3 and hit 3 big free throws," said Huber. "Doug is becoming a better scorer every game."
In a slow paced game, Jacobs seemed to be in control after a 3-pointer from Robert Pennel gave the Eagles a 29-21 lead with 1:26 left in the third quarter.
Miller scored 5 points as the Chargers ended the quarter on a 5-0 run and cut the deficit to 29-26 after 24 minutes.
The Chargers tied the game at 32 on a 25-foot 3-pointer by sophomore Jason Huber with 4:23 left.
D-C (8-6, 4-2) grabbed the lead for good 38-35 on 3 free throws from Miller with 1:46 left.
Two free throws from Kennon Cook with 33 seconds left sealed the win for the Chargers. The talented D-C sophomore was 3-of-8 from the charity stripe before the 2 clutch free throws. Cook ended with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Jason Huber came off the bench to hit a 3 and connected 4-of-4 from the line for 7 points.
"Kennon struggled from the line most of the night but connected on 2 huge free throws," said coach Huber. "He had a very solid overall game. Jason came in and hit a huge 3 from 25 feet. This is two great team wins in a row. We are playing better basketball and winning close games."
Jacobs, 6-of-20 from 3-point range, was led by Jaden Henderson with 12 points. Pennel hit three 3's and scored 10 for the Eagles.
