Vernon Hills knocks off Deerfield

Daniella Jarrell and Grace Guillaume each scored 13 points, and Vernon Hills' girls basketball team defeated visiting Deerfield 49-44 in Central Suburban League North Division action on Tuesday night.

Grace Koepke added 8 points for the Cougars, who improved to 9-7 and 3-1 in the CSL North. Deerfield fell to 11-6 and 3-2 in the CSL North.

"We had long stretches where we competed very well," Vernon Hills coach Paul Brettner said. "Credit Deerfield for bouncing back from the first quarter. It was back and forth the rest of the way and we managed to beat a very good team."

Warren 57, Grayslake North 37: Macy Kocen scored 17 points, including four 3-pointers, and the host Blue Devils picked up the nonconference win.

Caroline Sharpe and Zion Levy added 10 points apiece for Warren (7-10).

Peyton Gerdes had 15 points to lead Grayslake North (7-9). Faith Standerski scored 8 points before getting injured early in the third quarter and not returning.

Barrington 59, Grant 26: MaCalyn Flores scored 14 points, including three 3-pointers, for the visiting Bulldogs in the nonconference game.

Grant (10-7) played without junior center Jazzlyn Linbo.
