Krutwig's triple-double highlights strong junior season at Loyola

Jacobs graduate Cameron Krutwig continues to excel at the NCAA Division I college level.

Krutwig, now a junior 6-9 center on the Loyola University Chicago men's basketball team, recently was named the Missouri Valley Conference player of the week for his efforts in a pair of Rambler games.

During the award time frame Krutwig averaged 15.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 6.5 assists, 1.0 blocks and 1.5 assists, while shooting 55.6% from the field (10-for-18).

Krutwig, named the 2019-2020 MVC preseason player of the year, became the first Valley post player since 1989 to record a triple-double when he registered 22 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in a 78-70 win over Vanderbilt — the team's third win over a Southeastern Conference foe in as many seasons.

The triple-double also is believed to be the first in Loyola history. He is one of two centers to have posted a triple-double this season, joining Toledo's Luke Knapke.

Krutwig, part of the Loyola team that advanced to the NCAA Final Four two seasons ago, followed the triple-double up by turning in an 8-point, 11-rebound, 3-assist effort in a 59-56 loss to Davidson.

One of only 23 players in Loyola history to rack up more than 1,000 points and 500 rebounds in a career, Krutwig was 34th in program annals with 1,113 career points heading into the New Year's holiday.

Krutwig rolled out of the break and helped Loyola earn a 66-63 win over Valparaiso at the Athletics-Recreation Center in Valparaiso. It was the Valley opener for both squads. Krutwig had 13 points, 12 rebounds and 3 assists in the game while shooting 5-for-10 from the field.

Through 14 games, Krutwig is averaging team-bests in points at 16.0 and rebounds at 8.2 per game. He's shooting .615 from the field (88 of 143) and .774 from the foul line (48 of 62). Krutwig also is the team-leader in assists with 64 compared to only 38 turnovers. He has 18 steals and 11 blocks as well.
