Fremd, Barrington, Maine West net wins

Fremd's girls basketball team kicked off the new decade with a 46-30 triumph over Aurora Christian at the Chicagoland Invite at Benet High School on Saturday.

Coach Dave Yates' squad was led by senior guard Emily Klaczek (13 points), junior Grace LaBarge (12), and senior Olivia Hill (7).

Klaczek and LaBarge each connected for two 3-pointers as the Vikings raised their record to 12-4.

Barrington 78, Plainfield Central 44: Barrington was led by senior Taylor Thompson (31 points, 11 rebounds) and freshman Sophie Swanson's (26 points, 5 assists). They each had a 3-pointer along with senior Shanna Turczynski.

"Taylor played an outstanding game," said Barrington coach Babbi Barreiro. "She had a very complete game at both ends of the floor. Sophie also played one heck of a game. She made smart decisions with the ball, and had some great moves to finish at the basket."

The Fillies (11-6) scored a season-high 78 points.

"I was really happy with the way the team ran the offense today," Barreiro added. "They were patient and worked for good shots. The kids are finding each other within the offense.

"And although Tay and Soph had big games, we had others contributing offensively which we need consistently. They were very focused on each other today and I liked that."
