Burlington Central wins twice as Wells reaches 1,000

Junior guard Elena Wells scored the 1,000th point of her high school career during the Rockets' overtime victory over Eastland on the opening day of the Reindeer Games at Rockford Boylan.

Wells, who finished with a game-high 27 points, hit all 4 of her free throws as the Rockets outscored Eastland 15-8 in the extra session.

Kathryn Schmidt and Liliana Moretti added 14 and 11 points, respectively, for Burlington Central (10-2).

Earlier in the day, Burlington defeated Dakota behind 15 points from Schmidt and 13 points from Wells. Rylie DuVal chipped in with 11 points, including 8 in the fourth quarter.

Bolingbrook 62, Geneva 54: The Vikings (10-2) suffered their second straight loss at the Montini Christmas Tournament in Lombard.

Kate Palmer scored 13 of her 20 points in the opening half for the Vikings, while Lindsay Blackmore added 18 points.

The game was tied at 33-33 at halftime before Bolingbrook pulled away with a 19-8 third-quarter surge. Geneva was held to 21 second-half points.

Joliet Catholic 50, Aurora Christian 45: Anna Griffin scored 13 points and Thaya Luse added 11 as the Eagles (13-1) saw their 13-game winning streak end in a loss at the Peotone Blue Devils Holiday Classic.

Joliet Catholic outscored the Eagles 17-7 in the opening quarter.

St. Charles North 63, Hampshire 31: Talia Pellegrini scored 14 points for the second straight game to help lift the North Stars (9-5) to a victory over Hampshire at the Charger-Komaromy Christmas Classic.

Tatum Settelmyer and Alyssa Hughes added 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Kelby Bannerman scored 20 points for the Whip-Purs, who trailed 22-0 after one quarter.

Downers Grove North 34, Bartlett 33: Mackenzie Hare scored 17 points and hauled down 5 rebounds in the Hawks' narrow loss to the Trojans in the fifth-place game of the Bill Neibch Falcon Classic at Wheaton North.

Lexie Sinclair, who earned all-tournament status, added 6 points while Danielle Hedeen had 8 points and 5 steals.

In other Falcon Classic action, all-tournament selection Jalyssa Carrasco tallied 21 points to lead West Aurora to a 51-48 victory over Waubonsie Valley in 7th-place action. Isabelle Lambert added 10 points for the Blackhawks.

In the 11th-place contest, Glenbard North edged Jacobs 29-27 despite 16 points and 6 rebounds from the Golden Eagles' Elizabeth Schwartz.

St. Charles East took 15th place with a 56-36 victory over Elgin. Olivia Kiefer and Emma Yakey had 11 points each for the Saints while Giana Kilbert led the Maroons with 21 points and 21 rebounds - both career highs.

Harvest Christian 54, Willows Academy 31: Maddy Martin and Missy Fuja scored 17 points each during the Lions' victory over Willows at the Alden-Hebron Tournament.

Harvest (8-3) won the tourney title with a 3-0 record.

Abby Semerau added 10 points for the Lions, who led 48-28 after 3 quarters.

"The team fought hard and played a great three games," said Lions coach Jeremy Burke.
