Mundelein wins opener at Collinsville

Trey Baker scored 17 points, Scottie Ebube had a double-double, and Mundelein's boys basketball team opened the 36th annual Collinsville Holiday Classic by beating Granite City 53-36 on Friday morning.

Ebube totaled 16 points, 15 rebounds and 5 blocks, as the Mustangs improved to 11-0. Mundelein's other contributor's included Chris Rooney (8 points), Conor Enright (5 points, 5 assists, 4 steals) and Jack Bikus (5 points, 7 rebounds).

Mundelein plays O'Fallon at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Grant 57, South Elgin 52: At Jacobs, Mikal Ashley poured in 25 points, including three 3-pointers, as the Bulldogs won for the second day in a row in the Hinkle Holiday Classic.

Carter Kaye added 12 points for Grant (4-9, 2-2 tourney), which plays Streamwood at 3 p.m. Saturday for the Consolation B championship.

Grayslake Central 55, Payton Prep 44: At Jacobs, Ethan Boelens scored 16 points, and the Rams won their third game in a row in the Hinkle Holiday Classic.

Daniel Rogers and Conor Stahoviak added 13 and 12 points, respectively, for Grayslake Central (5-7, 3-1). Grant Hardy had 8 points in the win.

The Rams play Barrington at 4:30 p.m. Saturday for the Consolation A championship.

Round Lake 72, Genoa-Kingston 61: At Marengo, Deveauntay McNeal scored 21 points, and the Panthers improved to 2-1 in the E.C. Nichols Holiday Tournament.

At 9-3 overall, Round Lake has matched its win total of last season.

Isaiah Nixon and Hakim Williams added 15 and 14 points, respectively, for the Panthers. Kevonne Peterson had 12 points with for 4 3-pointers.

Evanston 65, Carmel 44: At Centralia, the Corsairs dropped their first game in the tournament.

Bryce Moore led Carmel (6-6, 1-1 tourney) with 17 points, including a 3-pointer. Kimahri Wilson and Syone Usma-Harper added 10 points each for the Corsairs. who play Belleville West at 8:30 a.m. Saturday.

Oak Forest 69, Vernon Hills 52: At Maine East, the Cougars fell to 1-1 in the tournament.

Vernon Hills will play Leyden at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

Lake Zurich 46, Normal West 41: At Perkin, the Bears won their second game of the day to advance to the consolation championship game.

Lake Zurich (5-6, 2-1) will play Moline at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Lake Zurich 57, Mt. Carmel 44: At Pekin, in their first of two games on the day, the Bears received 19 points from Will Tucker in winning their first game of the tournament.

Tucker and Noah DeLuga (9 points) each sank three 3-pointers for Lake Zurich (4-6, 1-1). Brady Orton and Jack Pfiefer each hit a pair and finished with 8 points.
