Maine South advances to Komaromy semifinals

In his first season as Maine South's girls basketball coach, Jeff Hamann has directed the Hawks into the semifinals of the 37th annual Komaromy Classic at Dundee-Crown High School.

The girls from Park Ridge stopped nine-time D-C champion Fenwick 55-50 in Friday's quarterfinal and will face Lake Park (10-2) in Saturday's 8 p.m. semifinal.

Niamh Gardiner (14 points), Nicole Gardiner (13), Nikki Manolis (10), Greta Miller (10) led the offense for the Hawks (10-4).

South tossed in 10 3-pointers led by Niamh Gardiner and Nicole Gardiner, who had three apiece, and Manolis with two.

Buffalo Grove 43, Hononegah 26: Senior guard Macy Floro scored a game-high 15 points with 6 rebounds and Kendra Lee added 11 points and 10 rebounds as Buffalo Grove won in consolation play of the Komaromy Holiday Classic.

Freshman Kora Kipley chipped in 8 points while Megan Fontanetta had 5 points with 2 assists and a steal for the Bison (8-6).

Naperville Central 65, Prospect 63: Eliot Dojutrek (16 points), Summer Srodulski (14), Macy Zei (13 points), Andie Will (9) and Mia Gusloff (7) were top scorers for Prospect (5-7) in consolation play of the Komaromy Holiday Classic.

Sarah Skaggs grabbed 11 rebounds, followed by Srodulski (9) and Dojutek (80 and Gusloff (8).

Schaumburg 30, Jacobs 29: Schaumburg (7-7) won its second straight game at the Bill Neibch Falcon Classic at Wheaton North.

The Saxons will face Palatine for the consolation championship on Saturday at 3 p.m.

Talia Torosian (12 points) and Alyssa Orozco (8) led the offense for the Schaumburg, which was led by Jackie Drs. on the boards.

Palatine 46, Glenbard North 38: The Pirates made it two straight wins at the Bill Neibch Falcon Classic at Wheaton North, raising their record to 6-7. Palatine meets Schaumburg on Saturday at 3 p.m. for the consolation title.

Nazareth 42, Fremd 33: Fremd stands at 9-4 with losses in its first two games at the Montini Christmas tournament in Lombard.

Wheeling 52, Leyden 42: Chloe Drozdz scored a game-high 26 points to lead Wheeling (4-11) in the second round of the Blenner Holiday Classic at St. Viator High School.

Naomi Mettelus added 9 points for the Wildcats, who had 3-pointers from Drozdz (3), Sophia Stanke (2) and Metellus (2).

Becky Colmenares led the Eagles (2-9) with 17 points while Evelyn Abundes added 9.

St. Viator 53, Glenbrook North 40: Joy Bergstrom (21 points), Aubrey Horbach (14) and Keeley McClellan (6) led the Lions (4-6) in second round action of their own Blenner Holiday Classic.

Christian Liberty 65, St. Anne 31: CLA (9-3) won its first game Momence Christmas Tournament with four Chargers reaching double figures - Julia Wolke (16 points), Megan Ng (13 points), Audrey Law (10 points) and Melissa Castro (10).

Wolke had four 3-pointers and Castro had a pair.
