West Aurora runs into buzz saw vs. Curie

PONTIAC - Ramean Hinton scored 13 of his game-high 24 points before the six-minute mark of the first quarter to lead Curie past West Aurora 68-41.

"He hit some shots," West Aurora coach Brian Johnson said of Hinton. "He is having a great season."

The final outcome was essentially never in doubt as the undefeated Condors (8-0) blitzed the Blackhawks with 17 of the first 19 points of the game.

West Aurora (3-8) had to be content with minor runs, a development that would bear fruit in the third quarter.

The Blackhawks enjoyed an 18-12 advantage in the eight-minute span to earn some accolades from Johnson.

"I thought we had good energy," Johnson said. "I don't think we played scared. I thought we got a little better tonight."

Chris Nieves had a 3-point field goal and 3-point play on consecutive possessions for the Blackhawks.

"They just squeezed off of me," Nieves said of the Condor defenders. "My teammates found me. I was able to make plays with what my teammates gave me."

Paul Shavers had 10 points to earn scoring honors for West Aurora; Kelvin Balfour had nine, while Nieves and Axel Motola had eight each.

"There are really good teams, really good players here," Motola said.

St. Charles North could conceivably play Simeon and Bloom with a win over Curie.

"That's why you sign up to play at Pontiac," North Stars coach Tom Poulin said.
