Rolling Meadows tops Conant for third place
Sophomore Madi Niedbala scored 14 points and senior Bridget Rolla added 13 as Rolling Meadows' girls basketball team topped Conant 50-39 in the third-place game of the Libertyville Winter Tournament on Thursday.
Senior Susannah Holifield chipped in 8 points for the Mustangs (9-5).
Rolla was named to the all-tourney team.
Chikere Oduacho led Conant (4-9) with a game-high 18 points and a 3-pointer while teammate Neeha Kakuturu also had a 3-pointer.
Wheeling 47, Glenbrook North 44: Senior Sophia Stanke connected for four 3-pointers and 15 points as Wheeling won its first game of the Blenner Holiday Classic at St. Viator.
Other top scorers for the Wildcats (3-11) were freshman Ty-Ana Howard (9 points), senior Morgan Collar (8) and senior Chloe Drozdz (7).
Hersey 59, Loyola 37: Junior Mary McGrath (16 points), freshman Katy Eidle (14), senior Mary Kate Fahey (9) and junior Natalia Kubsik (8) helped Hersey (11-4) get off to a winning start at the Montini Christmas tournament. Junior Avery Larson added 7 points for the Huskies, who face top-seeded Benet in Friday's quarterfinal.
Barrington 47, Trinity 45: Freshman Sophie Swanson (13 points, 3 steals) converted a pair of free throws to break the 45-45 tie and lift the Fillies to the win in their opening game of the Komaromy Classic at Dundee-Crown High School.
It was the ninth straight win for the Fillies (9-4), who were led by sophomore Laura Mahlum's 17 points and 8 rebounds. Taylor Thompson (6 points) and Swanson had 6 rebounds apiece while Michaela Goetze had 3.
Barrington takes on three-time defending D-C champion Maine West in Friday's 5 p.m. quarterfinal.
Schaumburg 55, Elgin 15: Sophomore Alyssa Orozco tossed in a game-high 21 points with 5 rebounds and 6 assists as Schaumburg (6-7) evened its record at 1-1 in the Bill Neibch Holiday Classic at Wheaton North.
Katie Smith (8 points) and Emma Raupp (7) were other top scorers for the winners, who also received 3 assists apiece from Talia Torosian (5 points) and Smith.
Palatine 41, St. Charles East 33: The Pirates (5-7) notched their first win at the Bill Neibch Holiday Classic at Wheaton North to raise their record to 5-7.
They will face Glenbard North, a 41-36 winner over Hinsdale Central, at noon on Friday.
Fenwick 53, Prospect 41: Junior Eliot Dojutrek made 3-of-3 3-pointers and finished with 15 points to lead Prospect in its first game of the Komaromy Classic at Dundee-Crown.
Other top scorers for the Knights (5-6) were Mis Gusloff (8 points), Macy Zei (6) and Andie Will (5).
Maine South 63, Naperville Central 38: Maine South (9-4) won its first game at the Komaromy Classic at Dundee-Crown as Nicole Gardiner (13 points), Niki Manolis (8), Greta Miller (8) Emily Pape (6) and Amy Strotman (6) helped lead the way.
