Aurora Christian wins opener in Bloomington

Aurora Christian 62, Stanford Olympia 28: Taaj Davis scored a game-high 20 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, to lift Aurora Christian (6-2) past Stanford Olympia in Thursday's first round of the State Farm Holiday Classic in Bloomington.

The Eagles outscored Stanford Olympia 20-8 in the opening quarter and never looked back, building a commanding 54-25 advantage after three quarters.

Daniel Walker and Danny New added 15 and 8 points, respectively, as the Eagles advanced to Friday's quarterfinals (5:30 p.m.) against Quincy Notre Dame at Illinois Wesleyan.

Ethan Davis had 7 points for Stanford Olympia.

Streamwood 92, Johnsburg 55: Junior guard Jakobe Strong tallied 20 points and senior teammate Luke Pentecost added 19 points, including six 3-pointers, during the Sabres' rout of Johnsburg in the third day of the Hinkle Holiday Tournament at Jacobs.

Larenzo Coney and Zach Marquez chipped in with 11 and 10 points, respectively, for the Sabres (5-8).

Streamwood, 1-2 in the tourney, will face Bartlett in consolation round action at noon Friday.

In other third-round action at Jacobs, Bartlett edged Prosser, 64-61.

Homewood-Flossmoor 83, St. Charles East 54: The Saints (6-4) were outscored 45-24 during the middle quarters of their quarterfinal loss to Homewood-Flossmoor at the Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic.

Thomas Ditsworth led the Saints with 13 points while Sean Sullivan added 10. R.J. Ogom had 22 points and 6 rebounds for the Vikings, who went on a 19-0 run late in the second quarter and in the early stages of the third quarter to pull away.

St. Charles East will face Oswego East at 3:45 p.m. in Friday's third round.

Geneva 57, Elgin 36: Josh Preston scored 13 points and pulled down 5 rebounds during the Vikings' win over Elgin in the second round of the 42nd annual Wheeling Hardwood Tournament. Nathan Valentine had 12 points while Drew Johnson added 9 points and 5 rebounds as the Vikings (6-4) evened their tourney record.

Giovoni Griffin tallied a game-high 16 points, including four 3-pointers, for the Maroons (3-9), who suffered their seventh consecutive loss. Xavier Bonds added 13 points.

Neuqua Valley 74, Aurora Central Catholic 35: Colin Dean and Dylan Bryant tallied 10 points apiece but it wasn't enough as the Chargers (4-8) lost their second game at the East Aurora Holiday Classic.

John Poulakidas poured in 27 points, including six 3-pointers, for the Wildcats, who outscored ACC 43-16 in the opening half.

Eisenhower 72, St. Edward 37: Sebastian Oquendo had 11 points and Jackson Godfrey added 10 points as the Green Wave (5-7) lost in the first round of the ICCP/Westmont Christmas Tournament.

St. Edward trailed 21-6 after one quarter and 41-19 at halftime. Eisenhower improved to 8-3.

Fenwick 69, Larkin 56: At Proviso West, sophomore Damari Wheeler-Thomas hit four 3-pointers on his way to a 21-point effort during the Royals' first-round loss to Fenwick.

Jashon Johnson-Neals added 12 points for Larkin (1-10), which fell behind 21-9 after one quarter.

The Royals play Proviso West at 11 a.m. Friday.
