Sawyer leads Stevenson past Lake Zurich

Simone Sawyer led all scorers with 15 points, and Stevenson's girls basketball team went 10 of 10 from the foul line in the fourth quarter in a 58-42 win over host Lake Zurich on Monday night.

Stevenson (8-4, 2-3) snapped a two-game losing streak in North Suburban Conference action, while handing Lake Zurich (6-3, 3-1) its first NSC loss.

Nikki Ware added 13 points for the Patriots, and Ava Bardic and Avery King chipped in 11 each.

Lake Zurich received double-digit scoring from Ella Gilbertson (12 points), Alayna Soukup (11) and Margueret Spear (10).

Zion-Benton 53, Mundelein 18: Jada Mills scored 20 points and Morgan Callahan added 16 for the visiting Zee-Bees in the North Suburban Conference game.

Zion-Benton improved to 6-3 and 3-1 in the NSC.

Mundelein (1-9, 1-4) played without leading scorer and rebounder Morgan Frank, who missed the game due to an injury. Damia Ali had 5 points for the Mustangs, who did not score in the fourth quarter.

Lakes 28, Belvidere 27: At McHenry, Rosie Tekampe scored on a layup late, as the Eagles rallied from a 27-22 deficit in the final minute of the Northern Illinois Holiday Classic game.

Tekampe and Grace Sullivan each scored 10 points for Lakes (2-9, 1-2).

Wauconda 49, Johnsburg 33: At McHenry, Kiley Szmajda had 24 points, 14 rebounds and 3 steals, as the Bulldogs improved to 3-0 in the Northern Illinois Holiday Classic.

Ella Karg added 11 points, 5 assists and 3 steals for Wauconda (8-3).

"It wasn't the prettiest of games for us, but a win is a win," Bulldogs coach Jaime Dennis said. "Good teams find ways to win even when they aren't playing their best."

Wauconda will next play McHenry at McHenry at 6:30 p.m. Friday.

Woodstock North 63, Round Lake 33: At Richmond-Burton, the Panthers (1-12) fell to 0-3 in the Northern Illinois Holiday Classic.

Amari Cole and Ariea Williams each had 10 points for Round Lake.
