Mundelein, Round Lake get first wins

Morgan Frank had 20 points, 9 rebounds and 8 blocked shots, and Mundelein's girls basketball team defeated visiting Waukegan 39-36 in North Suburban Conference action Friday night for its first win of the season.

Gracie Werner added 6 points and 5 rebounds for the Mustangs (1-8, 1-3).

Round Lake 33, Lakes 18: Freshman Lilli Burton scored 12 points, and the host Panthers won their first game to improve to 1-9 and 1-3 in the Northern Lake County Conference.

"Our girls have been dedicated to improving and battled through tonight to get our first victory," Round Lake coach Molly Hennig said.

Lakes (1-7, 1-3) was led by Rosie Tekampe (7 points) and Grace Sullivan (6 points, 10 rebounds).

Libertyville 56, Warren 27: Abigail Frea (two 3-pointers) and Marianna Morrissey each scored 13 points for the host Wildcats in the North Suburban Conference game.

Lydia Crow had 11 points, 5 assists and 3 steals or Libertyville (6-4, 3-1), which led 21-8 after one quarter, 35-16 at halftime, and then outscored the Blue Devils 19-6 in the third. Lauren Huber tallied 10 points, 4 assists and 4 steals.

"We emphasized coming out and having a good third quarter, and we were able to do that." Libertyville coach Greg Pedersen said.

Gracie Lynch had 7 points for Warren (3-7, 1-3).

Zion-Benton 52, Stevenson 46: Morgan Callahan had 25 points, 7 rebounds and 3 blocks, and the visiting Zee-Bees handed the Patriots their second North Suburban Conference loss in a row.

Former Carmel guard Ranya Jamison added 18 points and 12 rebounds for Zion-Benton (5-3, 2-1).

Simone Sawyer scored 14 points, including four 3-pointers, to lead Stevenson (7-4, 1-3) which trailed 42-35 with less than three minutes left in the fourth quarter. A 3-pointer by Avery King (9 points) got the Patriots within four, but Zion-Benton answered with 9-0 run.

Nikki Kolz added 11 rebounds and 6 points for Stevenson. Nikki Ware had 8 boards and 5 points.

Grayslake North 41, Antioch 32: Peyton Gerdes and Faith Standerski had 13 and 12 points, respectively, for the visiting Knights, who improved to 4-6 and 2-1 in the Northern Lake County Conference with their third win in a row.

Antioch fell to 4-7 and 2-2.

Vernon Hills 58, Maine East 22: Freshman Grace Koepke scored 12 points for the visiting Cougars, who improve to 5-5 and 2-1 in the Central Suburban League North Division.

Grace Guillaume added 8 points.

"It was nice to see us come out hard and get some separation early," Vernon Hills coach Paul Brettner said.

Grant 64, North Chicago 43: The host Bulldogs improved to 6-3 and 4-0 in the Northern Lake County Conference.
