Elk Grove's Murray nets 1,000th career point

Elk Grove senior guard Megan Murray tossed home a game-high 23 points and surpassed 1,000 points for her career as the Grenadiers topped visiting Hoffman Estates 57-22 in girls basketball action on Tuesday night.

Murray now has 1,002 points for her career.

Other top scorers for EG (5-4) in the Mid-Suburban League crossover were Lili Duckman (10 points), Hannah Gryzik (7), Kaityln Ingebritsen and Julia Masnica (5).

Ashley Oliver led the Hawks (1-8) with 13 points.

Prospect 46, Palatine 31: Sophomore Andie Will (15 points) and junior Eliot Dojutrek (10) led the host Knights (5-2) in the MSL crossover.

Sophomores Madi Stark and Olivia Riley each scored 8 points for the Pirates (3-5).

Schaumburg 50, Wheeling 42: Alyssa Orozco (18 points), Talia Torosian (13) and Katie Smith (11) led the visiting Saxons (4-5) in the MSL crossover.

Chloe Drozdz (23 points) and Naomi Metullus paced Wheeling (1-7).

Fremd 54, Mother McAuley 30: Leading 6-4, Fremd (6-1) went on a 24-0 run to lead 30-9 at half in the Exam Jamm at Lake Zurich.

Leading the Vikings were Grace LaBarge (14 points), Emily Klaczek (12), Olivia Hill (12) and Ally Sheehan (9).

Barrington 43, Wheaton North 38: Barrington (6-4) won its sixth straight game as senior Taylor Thompson led the way with 18 points and 14 rebounds at the Exam Jamm.

Other top scorers for the Fillies were Sophie Swanson (11), Laura Mahlum (7) and Shanna Turczynski (7).

"I was was really pleased with the way the kids played tonight. Wheaton North, with that press, was pretty relentless and I felt our kids responded well to their pressure," said Barrington coach Babbi Barreiro. "Sophie again did a nice job of running the floor for us and that helped us handle their press. Taylor really had a very complete game. Her ability to rebound and pass the ball make her so tough."

Barreiro also said Gracie Stagnito, Michaela Goetze and Turczynski sparked the defense.

"Shanna was key for us down the stretch," Barreiro added. "Mahlum left us at halftime for a school band performance, but I credit the others off the bench as they really stepped up. I was very happy for the kids and proud of their ability to grind it out til the buzzer. It was a track meet but games like that teach us a lot."

Maine West 54, Highland Park 23: Angela Dugalic (14 points, 13 rebounds, 3 assists), Dylan VanFleet (13 points, 4 steals, 3 assists) and Lena Albo (8 points, 3 assists, 4 steals) led Maine West (9-1, 3-0) in the CSL North game.

Plainfield Central 55, Rolling Meadows 53: The Mustangs (4-4) were led by Susannah Holifield (18 points), Madi Niedbala (110 and Bridget Rolla (8) at the Exam Jamm.

Vernon Hills 50, Buffalo Grove 48: The Bison fell to 5-3 with the narrow loss at the Exam Jamm.
