Sawyer leads Stevenson past Willowbrook in tourney finale
Simone Sawyer scored 21 points, and Stevenson's girls basketball team finished up the Willowbrook Thanksgiving tournament by beating the host school 66-53 on Tuesday night.
The Patriots (5-1) finished 4-1 in the tourney, second behind Montini.
Ava Bardic and Avery King added 17 and 14 points, respectively, for Stevenson. Sawyer was named first team all-tourney, and Bardic was named to the second team.
Libertyville 59, Crystal Lake Central 23: At Libertyville, Lydia Crow sank three 3-pointers and scored 11 of her game-high 16 points in the opening quarter, as the host Wildcats improved to 2-1 in the Buffalo Grove Thanksgiving tournament.
Lauren Huber added 9 points and 11 rebounds for Libertyville, and Margaret Buchert had 5 assists. Crow finished with four 3s.
"We were pleased with the play of our big kids tonight," Libertyville coach Greg Pedersen said. "They played strong and physical basketball."
Maine East 35, Round Lake 32: At Maine East, Amari Cole scored 12 points for the Panthers, who wrapped up tournament play with an 0-4 record to start the season.
Lilli Burton and Karla Martin had 9 and 7 points, respectively, for Round Lake.
Lake Forest 50, Antioch 12: At Vernon Hills, Halle Douglass scored 18 points to lead the Scouts, who went 5-0 in winning the tournament championship.
Antioch (1-4) received 3-pointers from freshman Jennifer Pazdernik (4 points), Erin Miller and Miranda Chamberlin.
Sycamore 45, Vernon Hills 29: At Vernon Hills, Daniella Jarrell scored a season-high18 points for the host Cougars, who finished 2-3 in their tournament.
Vernon Hills 54, Lake Forest Academy 30: On Monday night, Emmy Woodrow (two 3-pointers) and Lauren Shores each scored 10 points to lead the Cougars to their second win in a row in their own tournament.
