Vernon Hills, Lake Zurich open season with victories

Ryan Jacobson scored 16 points, and Vernon Hills' boys basketball team opened its season by beating Holy Trinity 69-54 at Northridge Prep on Monday night.

Tony Brown added 12 points for the Cougars, who resumed the tournament on Wednesday with a 5:30 p.m. tipoff against host Northridge Prep.

Lake Zurich 44, Lakes 38: At Richmond-Burton, Will Tucker led all scorers with 20 points, as the Bears won the season opener.

Lake Zurich plays host Richmond-Burton at 7 p.m. Tuesday, while Lakes takes on Crystal Lake South in the first game at 5:30 p.m.

Woodstock North 67, Round Lake 64: At Woodstock North, the host Thunder received 28 points from Cole Bray in the season opener.

Schurz 58, Carmel 55: At Grant, the Corsairs lost their season opener.

Kimahri Wilson led Carmel with 18 points. Josh LaBarbera (13 points) and Bryce Moore (11) also scored in double figures for Carmel.
