McGuire's 23 leads St. Edward to win

St. Edward opened its season Monday at the Westminster Christian tournament with a 50-31 win over Hinckley Big-Rock.

JP McGuire led the Green Wave with 23 points and Sebastian Oquendo added 15.

In other action at the tournament, Elgin defeated Christian Liberty 75-35. Gio Griffin and Xavier Bonds led a balanced effort with 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Burlington Central 58, Yorkville 49: At the Sycamore-Strombom Tournament, the Rockets built a 45-25 lead through three quarters. Jake Lenschow scored a game-high 19 points, Josh Hudgens added 13 and Zac Schmidt 9.

West Aurora 63, Downers Grove South 59: At Oswego's Hoops for Healing tournament, Kelvin Balfour helped the Blackhawks win a hard-fought game with 23 points. Paul Shavers (13) and Kenneth Dyson (11) also reached double figures.

Crystal Lake South 57, Richmond-Burton 48: At the Richmond-Burton Tournament, the Gators got their season off on the right foot behind senior Damir Glamoc with 18 points and freshman Cooper LePage with 15.

Addison Trail 66, Aurora Central Catholic 62: The Chargers lost despite a 26-point game by Donovan Grunloh. Colin Dean added 16 points and Danny Cwinski scored 12.
