Maine South tops Barrington in Bison Classic

Maine South's girls basketball team improved to 2-0 in the Bison Classic at Buffalo Grove High School on Saturday with a 58-37 win over Barrington.

The Hawks were led by Niamh Gardiner (11 points), junior Niki Manolis (11 points), senior Greta Miller (8 points) and junior Nicole Gardiner (8 points).

                                                                                                                                                                                                                       
 

Barrington (0-3, 0-2) was paced by freshman Sophie Swanson (14 points), Taylor Thompson (13 points) and Laura Mahlum (8 points).

Grayslake Central 42, Hersey 39: Mary Kate Fahey (14 points) and Mary McGrath (11 points) led Hersey (1-2, 1-1) at The Bison Classic. Jordan Carlquist and Natalia Kubsik each chipped in 6 points for Hersey.

St. Viator 54, Rockford Boylan 52: St. Viator (1-2) earned its first win at the Dundee-Crown Thanksgiving Tournament as sophomore Joy Bergstrom led the Lions with 24 points. Nora Ahram added 11 points with 6 assists and 3 rebounds while Aubrey Horbach tossed in 9 points with 10 rebounds. Teammate Keely McClellan added 5 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists.

Palatine 42, Huntley 36: Sophomore Olivia Riley (13 points), senior Melanie Simon (10) and sophomore Madi Stark (8) led Palatine (2-2, 2-1) at the Dundee-Crown Thanksgiving Tournament.

Hampshire 52, Wheeling 46: Naomi Metellus (16 points, four 3-pointers), Chloe Drozdz (13 points, three 3-pointers) and Sophia Stanke (12 points, three 3-pointers) led Wheeling (0-3) in the third-round game of the Tom Kendall Pilgrim Classic at Hoffman Estates High School.

Harvard 44, Christian Liberty 40: Julia Wolke (16 points), Audrey Law (10) and Melissa Castro (8) were top scorers for CLA (1-3) in the Illinois Math & Science Thanksgiving Tournament in Aurora.

Lake Forest 56, Elk Grove 32: Sophomore Hannah Gryzik (9 points), Megan Murray (8) and Lili Duckmann (6) led Elk Grove (2-1) at the Vernon Hills tourney.

Lake Zurich 39, Rolling Meadows 29: Lake Zurich improved to 2-1 with the nonconference win over visiting Rolling Meadows (1-2).

Lake Park 58, Hoffman Estates 14: Hoffman Estates fell to 1-2 in its own Tom Kendall Pilgrim Classic and 1-3 overall.

Downers Grove North 35, Schaumburg 30: The Saxons dropped to 1-1 in their own Thanksgiving tourney.

Riverside Brookfield 69, Maine East 57: Maine East fell to 0-3 in its own Thanksgiving tourney. The Blue Demons will face Round Lake for seventh place on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Glenbrook North 64, Leyden 35: Leyden fell to 1-2 in the Maine East Thanksgiving tourney and will face North Chicago for fifth place on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
