Palatine gains first win

Palatine's girls basketball team earned its first win of the season on Friday with a 44-38 triumph over Crystal Lake South in the second round of the Dundee-Crown Thanksgiving Tournament.

Madi Stark scored a game-high 15 points and Kayla Miotk added 10 as the Pirates evened their record at 1-1 in the tourney and stand at 1-2 overall.

York 62, Prospect 44: Prospect finished 3-1 in the ninth annual York Thanksgiving Tournament, falling to the host Dukes (4-0) in the title game.

"I'm proud of the hard work the girls put out to get us to the championship game," said Prospect coach Marie Miller. "Four games in five days is a challenge for any team, but the level of competition and effort our girls put out every night made us better and got us one more step closer to being ready for the Mid-Suburban League."

Summer Srodulski (15 points), Eliot Dojutrek (10) and Andie Will (8 points, two 3-pointers) were top scorers for the Knights.

"We look forward to getting back home and working on bouncing back," Miller said.

Dojutrek earned a spot on the all-tourney team.

"This award is voted on by all other teams," Miller said. "And we are very proud of Eliot."

Trinity 54, Conant 42: Trinity defeated Conant for third place at the York tourney. All tourney selection Isabella Tierney and Sam Locascio each scored 9 points for the Cougars (2-2) while Rachel Kutella added 7 and Emily Ytsen 6.

Christian Liberty 55, Indian Creek 53: Led by Julia Wolke (16 points, three 3-pointers), Megan Ng (14) and Melissa Castro (14), Christian Liberty earned its first win in the Illinois Math & Science Academy Hoops Happening tourney.

Audrey Law added 7 points for the Chargers (1-2) while Castro had a pair of 3-pointers.

South Elgin 46, St. Viator 40: Sophomores Joy Bergstrom (18 points, 7 rebounds, 2 steals, 2 blocks) and Nora Ahram (10 points, 3 assists) led St. Viator, which is 0-2 in the Dundee-Crown tourney.
