Arden leads Wauconda to first victory

Mackenzie Arden scored 18 points to lead three Wauconda players in double figures, and the Bulldogs opened their own tournament with a 51-33 win over Kaneland on Thursday night.

Jessie Pakaski added 15 points and 11 rebounds for Wauconda (1-1), and Ella Karg contributed 10 points and 3 steals. The Bulldogs also got 9 rebounds from Morgan Lung.

"It was a good team win for our first victory of the year with a lot of different people making key contributions," said Wauconda coach Jaime Dennis, whose team led 9-2 after one quarter, 25-17 at halftime and 39-23 after three. "We came out with a strong defensive effort in the first and really picked it up offensively in the second. Jessie and Morgan were monsters on the boards, making a huge difference in the game."

Arden sank a 3-pointer and also had 7 rebounds, 4 blocks and 3 steals.

"After struggling a little in the first game (Monday against Cary-Grove), Mackenzie found her rhythm in this game," Dennis said. "The girls did a lot of things well tonight. It is a nice way to start the tournament. "

Mother McAuley 48, Libertyville 40: At Buffalo Grove, the Wildcats lost their season opener, despite receiving 17 points from Margaret Buchert.

Morgan Spaulding and Lydia Crow (3-pointer) had 6 and 5 points, respectively. Buchert sank a pair of 3-pointers. Lauren Huber grabbed 8 rebounds for Libertyville.

Maine South 50, Grayslake Central 42: At Hersey, Kate Bullman scored 18 points, including three 3-pointers, for the Rams (1-1), who lost their tournament opener.

Amanda Kocialkowski had 9 points for Grayslake Central.

Glenbrook North 47, Round Lake 19: At Maine East, the Panthers fell to 0-2 on the season and 0-2 in the tournament, despite Amari Cole's 11 points.

Grant 46, Mundelein 43: On Wednesday night at Mundelein, MaCalyn Flores scored 15 points, including 4 of 4 from the foul line in the fourth quarter, as the Bulldogs pulled out the game down the stretch.

Kylie Whyte scored 4 of her 9 points in the fourth for Grant (1-2), which received 9 points from Katelyn Dupree as well. Jazzlyn Linbo had 5 points, including a fourth-quarter 3.

The score was tied 30-30 after three.

Morgan Frank scored a career-high 31 points to lead Mundelein (0-3). The senior forward sank three 3-pointers and also had 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks. Tess McKay had 6 points and 2 steals for the Mustangs, who play Carmel (3-0) at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Grant takes on Grayslake North (1-2) at 4:30 p.m. Friday.
