Strong start for Grayslake Central, Bullman

Illinois State-bound senior forward Kate Bullman scored a game-high 19 points, including four 3-pointers, and Grayslake Central's girls basketball team opened the season with a 45-26 win over visiting Marian Central in nonconference action on Tuesday night.

MK Drevline added 9 points for the Rams, and Amanda Kocialkowski had eight.

Grayslake Central led 11-0 after one quarter and 28-2 at halftime.

Carmel 39, Glenbrook South 34: At Mundelein, freshman Jordan Wood scored a game-high 19 points, as the Corsairs improved to 2-0 in the tournament.

Kaytlyn Matz added 10 points, including a 3-pointer, for Carmel. The 6-foot-4 Wood sank 6 field goals (two 3s) and went 5 of 5 from the foul line.

Glenbrook South's Eden Frick scored 12 points on four 3-pointers.

Lake Zurich 59, Johnsburg 25: Ella Gilbertson's 15 points led a balanced attack, as the visiting Bears opened the season with a nonconference win.

Alayna Soukup and Margueret Spear added 14 and 13 points, respectively, for Lake Zurich. The Bears also got offense from Elyssa Adams (6 points), Amelia Young (5), Ashley Geisler (2), Kaylie Piggott (2) and Brooke Wahlund (2).
