Crystal Lake South blows out McHenry to stay tied for FVC lead

Crystal Lake South honored Griffin Coakley, Nikolas Slabakov, Ben Geske, Ryan Lawson, Patrick Fischer and Matt Reall on Senior Night.

But it was junior Damir Glamoc and sophomore Casey Haskin in reserve roles who stole the spotlight.

Haskin, with a pair of 3-pointers, scored 14 points with 12 rebounds and Glamoc with 10 points including a pair of treys, led Crystal Lake South to a 53-26 win over McHenry in Fox Valley Conference play in Crystal Lake Tuesday night.

The Gators (22-7, 11-4), with a win at Jacobs Thursday night, can at least get a share of the FVC crown for the first time since 1994.

Crystal Lake Central (11-4), a 50-45 winner over Dundee-Crown on Tuesday, can get a share of the FVC title with a home win against McHenry Thursday night.

Glamoc, who was 2-of-3 from 3-point range, scored 7 points in the pivotal second quarter.

"Starting the game on the bench I am able to see what the flow of the game is," said Glamoc. "I am always confident in my shot. I hit my first couple 3s and got in a good groove. My teammates set some great screens and I got the ball in great position to score."

Haskin, who had 9 defensive rebounds and 3 off the offensive glass, blocked 3 shots and dished out 4 assists.

"This win was for the seniors," said Haskin. "I just wanted to play well and help the seniors win their last home game."

South coach Matt LePage praised both Glamoc and Haskin.

"Damir got us going off the bench with a couple of key 3s in the second quarter," said LePage. "Casey is improving every game and has showed the ability to hit the 3."

Reall scored 9 points with 7 rebounds and 3 assists and sophomore Brock Jewson scored 8 off the bench.

Down 9-8 after one quarter, the Gators seized control of the game in the second quarter outscoring the Warriors 23-1.

With South leading 19-10, the Gators ended the half on a 12-0 run. Glamoc and Haskin each scored 5 points and Lawson scored on a layup as the Gators led 31-10 at halftime. In the second quarter, South was 10-of-12 from the field for 83 percent.

"We have got off to slow starts the last couple of games," said LePage. "I think we were distracted by all the hoopla and emotions surrounding Senior Night. We were really humming defensively and offensively in the second quarter. We got easy transition baskets and really shared the ball."

The Gators' biggest advantage was 51-21 after a layup by Jewson with 2:22 left.

Jacobs Evans led McHenry (2-26, 2-13) with 10 points. The Gators forced 25 turnovers.

"We played a very good first quarter, but South really took it to us in the second quarter," said McHenry coach Chris Madson. "Matt has done a great job this year. I have never seen a team win with 26 points and 25 turnovers."
