Enright, Mundelein handle Lake Zurich

By this time in the boys basketball season, it's been established that Mundelein's Conor Enright has no limitations on his 3-point shot. No, not from the opponent's side just yet.

Lake Zurich was Friday night's guest in Mundelein. And the Bears probably haven't seen this before.

Enright closed the first quarter scoring with a 3-pointer that beat the buzzer. He repeated that feat to close the second quarter as well. That's 6 points in about a second-and-a-half.

Lake Zurich had some early leads. The Bears, however trailed from the second quarter on as Mundelein (18-10) posted a 56-43 North Suburban Conference victory.

"I think I did that a couple days ago against Libertyville,'' Enright said. "I forgot about the first three tonight. I thought the second three gave us momentum at halftime."

Enright closed with a 20-point night. And three 3-pointers in the first half. How far was the longest one?

"Maybe, the volleyball line,'' Enright added.

Mundelein's big man, Scottie Ebube, recorded a double-double (12 points, 12 rebounds) but also dabbled in foul trouble.

Enter senior Nolan Thier, who checked in with 6 points in the second quarter.

"My playing time has decreased so I just come off the bench and fill in,'' Thier noted. "But that's fine because our team is very confident going into the playoffs."

The Bears got their usual strong floor game from JR Cison. He led his team with 16 points. Will Tucker knocked down three 3-pointers and had 11 points.

"Lake Zurich beat us at their place,'' Enright said. "But tonight, we were ready and brought a lot of energy."

On a Cison drive, the Bears' last lead was 12-10 with two minutes to play in the opening quarter.

Enright had 8 first-quarter points after his first buzzer-beater.

Mundelein opened up a double-digit lead with a 3-pointer from Andrew Gonzalez. This senior checked in with 12 points.

Another 3-pointer from Gonzalez built the Mustangs' lead to 16 points at 42-26. On a Joe Lococo 10-footer, the Bears cut Mundelein's lead to 47-36 with 5 minutes to play.
