Elk Grove guarantees .500 season
Elk Grove's girls basketball team guaranteed itself, at the least, a .500 season by posting a 52-27 win over No. 21 West Chicago in the Class 4A York regional on Monday night in Elmhurst.
The No. 12 Grenadiers (14-13) advanced to Tuesday's semifinal and will face No. 8 and host school York at 7:30 p.m.
Freshman Lili Dickman (11 points), junior Megan Murray (10), sophomore Isabella Tierney (10) and senior Rachel Kandefer (8) were top scorers for EG.
Conant 44, Glenbard North 23: No. 13 Conant led 35-12 at half en route to a 44-23 win over No. 20 Glenbard North in the play-in game of the Class 4A York regional.
The Cougars (10-17) advanced to Tuesday's 6 p.m. semifinal to face No. 4 Wheaton North.
Abbey DiSalvo (14 points) connected for half of the Cougars' six 3-pointers while Neesha Kakuturu (two-3-pointers) and Stephanie Mazurek each chipped in 10 points. Hannah Shulman had Conant's other 3-pointer.
Leyden 62, Lakeview 13: No. 15 Leyden advanced to the semifinals of the Maine South regional as the 11-11 Eagles put points on the scoreboard against No. 19 Lakeview.
"It was a great start to the postseason," said Eagles coach Stephanie Kuzmanic, the former Carthage College all-American guard whose Eagles will face No. 3 Evanston in Tuesday's 6 p.m. semifinal at Maine South.
Highland Park 64, Palatine 47: Addie Budnik had a game-high 30 points as the No. 14 Giants won the play-in game of the Class 4A Vernon Hills regional. Budnik scored her 1,000th career point in the win over the No. 18 Pirates (7-22).
Warren 47, Wheeling 40: No. 17 Warren (10-18) advanced to the semifinals of the Class 4A Lake Forest regional with the win over No. 15 Wheeling (11-18).
