Elk Grove stuns Prospect

Junior guard Megan Murray scored a game-high 19 points and senior Rachel Kandefer added 12 to lead Elk Grove's girls basketball team to a 52-44 win over visiting Prospect on Friday night.

The win gave coach Jen Buxton's Grenadiers a 5-5 record in the Mid-Suburban East and they came within a win of .500 overall at 12-13.

Freshman Lily Duckmann added 8 points and sophomore Isabella Tierney 6 for the Grens while Prospect (13-8, 5-4) was paced by Eliot Dujotrek (14 points) and Ashley Adams (13).

Hersey 61, Wheeling 57: Sophomore Mary Kate Fahey (17 points) and senior Emily Collins (14) were top scorers for defending MSL champion Hersey (17-9, 7-3) which trails Rolling Meadows by half game in the MSL East.

Nosa Igiehon (18 points) and Sophia Stanke (10) led visiting Wheeling (10-17, 1-9).

Fremd 62, Hoffman Estates 27: Visiting Fremd (24-4, 10-0) locked up a perfect MSL West run as junior Emily Klaczek (15 points), junior Olivia Hill (10) and sophomore Ruthie Montella (9) helped lead the way.

Hoffman Estates (10-18, 3-7) was led by freshman Ashley Oliver's 10 points.

Palatine 47, Conant 35: Palatine (7-19, 1-9) gained its first MSL West win as Kayla Miotk (15 points), Melanie Simon (12) and Julianna Mandarino (8) helped lead the way for the hosts.

Neesha Kakuturu (10 points), Hannah Shulman (8), Stephanie Mazurek (7) and Abbey DiSalvo (7) paced Conant (9-15, 4-6).

Schaumburg 54, Barrington 45: Trailing 36-30 after three quarters, Schaumburg (12-13, 5-5) rallied for the MSL West win at Barrington (10-16, 6-4).

Maine West 70, Maine East 26: Rachel Kent (13 points, 6 assists), Angela Dugalic (13 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists) and Dylan Van Fleet (10 points, 8 steals) led the visiting Warriors (26-0, 9-0) in the CSL North win.

Leyden 53, Addison Trail 39: Using huge defensive stops down the stretch and 10-of-10 free throw shooting in the fourth quarter, Leyden earned the win in its final West Suburban Gold game of the season.

Evelyn Abundes (14 points), Gabriela Hurtado (12), Jamyah Tate (9), Kassandra Perez (9) and Yaritza Frias (7) led the visiting Eagles' scoring.
