Glenbard West's Taylor earns MVP nod
Glenbard West's Evan Taylor is this week's Daily Herald boys basketball MVP.
Evan Taylor, Glenbard West: The 6-foot-6 senior wing, committed to Southern Illinois University, dominated in a pair of wins for the Hilltoppers. Taylor scored 29 points, had 7 rebounds and 5 assists in a 71-59 victory over St. Charles East, then scored 19 points with 14 rebounds in a 56-50 win over Glenbard East.
Heze Trotter, Schaumburg: The Saxons' 6-foot-3 senior joined the 1,000-point club by scoring a game-high 19 points in a 45-41 win over Conant. The victory kept Schaumburg tied with Fremd for first place in the Mid-Suburban League West Division. Trotter now has 1,015 career points.
Cody Mitchell, St. Charles East: This 6-foot-7 forward was determined to deliver the turnaround his team so desperately needed. One night after the Saints were upset on the road at Glenbard North, the senior helped engineer a 67-55 victory over 19-win West Aurora. Mitchell scored 10 first-quarter points on his way to 22 and his 22 rebounds helped snap the Blackhawks' 10-game winning streak.
Donovan Carter, Wauconda: The junior forward can fill up the basket with the best of them in Lake County. His 24 points against Antioch included a 9-of-10 performance from the foul line, as the Bulldogs won 67-53. He also poured in 24 points earlier in the week against Lake View, which pulled out a 68-61 decision in overtime. He's scored 20-plus points seven times this season.
