Waubonsie Valley's Skeete picks up MVP honors

Waubonsie Valley's Marcus Skeete is this week's Daily Herald boys basketball MVP.

Marcus Skeete, Waubonsie Valley: A 6-foot-5 junior wing, Skeete recorded 3 double-doubles in the Warriors' 4-0 sweep at Burlington Central that lifted their record to 18-2. Averaging 20.8 points on 61 percent field goal shooting, and 9.5 rebounds, in a 72-53 win over Hampshire he cleared 12 boards and scored a personal-high 29 points.

Sheldon Barnett-Morales, Hoffman Estates: The Hawks' 6-foot-6 senior hit for a career-high 34 points as Hoffman Estates earned a 64-47 Mid-Suburban West win over rival Conant. His steal and dunk in the fourth quarter staked Hoffman to a 20-point lead. "He looked like an All-American out there," said Conant coach Jim Maley.

Matt McCoy, Jacobs: This deadeye shooter was a big reason the Golden Eagles knocked off Fox Valley Conference leader Crystal Lake Central. The 6-foot senior guard scored a team-high 25 points in a 64-57 win by sinking 6 of 11 attempts from 3-point range and 5 of 6 free throws down the stretch. McCoy scored 10 points the following night in a 40-30 victory at McHenry.

Johnny Roeser, Carmel Catholic: Named all-tournament at Grant and Centralia earlier this season, the 6-foot-5 guard/forward picked up the honor again in Lake Zurich's MLK Classic. In three games, the four-year varsity starter averaged 16 points in helping the Corsairs finish second to Glenbrook South. He had 16 points, 6 rebounds, 6 steals and 3 blocks in a 55-50 win over Mundelein.
