St. Edward, Larkin win on opening night of Elgin Classic

The Elgin City Classic opened Wednesday night with St. Edward defeating Westminster Christian 67-38 and Larkin topping Elgin 62-54. Harvest Christian had a bye.

Larkin outscored Elgin 21-8 in the third quarter after the Maroons led 30-28 at halftime. Ashley Miller scored 15 points for the Royals, Kiara Villa had 13 and Janelle Clements 9.

Elgin's Kamiya Harvey led all scorers with 18 points.

The tournament continues through next week. It resumes Saturday with Westminster Christian playing Elgin at 1 p.m.

On Monday, Harvest Christian faces Larkin at 5:30 p.m. and Elgin battles St. Edward at 7. Next Wednesday Harvest and Westminster square off followed by Larkin and St. Edward.

Larkin's JV faces Westminster next Thursday while Elgin plays Harvest, then the tournament concludes Friday, Jan. 18 with St. Edward meeting Harvest Christian.

All games will be played at Elgin High School.
