Maine West's Kent secures MVP plaudits

Rachel Kent of Maine West is this week's Daily Herald girls basketball MVP.

Rachel Kent, Maine West: Leading Maine West to a third straight championship at the Komaromy Classic at Dundee-Crown, Kent averaged 18.5 points in four games as all-tourney selection. The 5-foot-11 senior netted a season-high 28 points against Trinity in the quarterfinal.

Lydia Crow, Libertyville: The Wildcats rebounded from losing the first game of their own holiday tournament by winning their next three games to capture the championship. The junior guard helped lead the way by pouring in 16 points, including four 3-pointers, in the Wildcats' title-clinching, 61-50 win over Rolling Meadows. She scored 22 points, sinking six 3-pointers, against Niles West.

Zoe MacKay Zacker, Montini: MacKay Zacker provided senior leadership to a young Broncos team that placed second in a top-notch field at the Montini Christmas Tournament after a 41-40 loss to Nazareth. The 5-foot-10 guard was named all-tournament for her efforts, scoring 32 points for the week.

Lexi LaManna, Aurora Christian: This 5-foot-4 freshman point guard led an Aurora Christian team missing two seniors out with torn ACLs to the Earlville Christmas Tournament championship. After recording 10 points, 4 assists, 5 rebounds and 3 steals in the quarterfinal win, LaManna set a program record with 12 assists - plus 7 rebounds and 4 steals - in the semifinals. LaManna then showed she can score too with 24 points plus 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals in the championship victory over Earlville.
