Guenther nets 1,000th point as Grayslake North splits

Savannah Guenther reached a milestone, and Grayslake North's girls basketball team split a pair of games at Rockford Boylan on Saturday.

Guenther scored the 1,000th point of her career, as the Knights lost to McHenry 60-40 in their first game of the day in the Reindeer Games. The four-year varsity player finished with 11 points, while Margaret Stanfel added nine.

Guenther then had 27 points to lead Grayslake North to a 59-30 win over Beloit Memorial. Stanfel added 7 points and sophomore Jayden Curtis chipped in six.

Grayslake North (6-11) finished the tournament 2-2.

Guenther, who was named to the all-tournament team, joins Kendall Detweiler and Sidney Lovitsch as the only players in Knights history to score 1,000 points.

Stevenson 56, Trinity 42: At Dundee-Crown, the Patriots trailed 19-15 after one quarter in their finale of the Charger Classic but outscored the Blazers 15-7 in the second and 16-4 in the third.

Avery King had 14 points and 9 rebounds for Stevenson (11-7, 2-2 tourney), while Simone Sawyer recorded 14 points (two 3-pointers) and 7 rebounds. Nikki Ware added 9 points on three 3s, and Ava Bardic contributed 9 points and 4 assists.

Hersey 41, Lake Zurich 24: At Montini, the Bears lost their tournament finale to fall to 8-11.

Lake Zurich finished 1-3 in the tourney.

Quincy 46, Deerfield 37: At Warren, Stephanie Anders had 16 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals for the Blue Devils, who finished second in the tournament with a 4-1 record.

Sarah Nelson (9 points, 8 rebounds) was named to the all-tournament team for Quincy.

Deerfield (0-5 tournament) was led by all-tournament pick Mallory Sawyer, who scored 16 points.

Reed-Custer 31, Antioch 15: At Lisle, the Sequoits dropped their finale of the Cage Classic.

Antioch (3-14) finished 2-2 in the tournament.
