Ebube leads Mundelein to victory at SIU

Scottie Ebube had 19 points, 10 rebounds and 4 blocked shots, and Mundelein's boys basketball team opened play in the Carbondale tournament by beating Covington (Tenn.) 62-58 at Southern Illinois University on Thursday.

Jack Bikus added a season-high 17 points, 6 rebounds and 2 blocks, and Conor Enright had 15 points and 8 assists. The Mustangs (7-5) also got 8 points and 5 rebounds from Andrew Gonzalez.

Lakes 58, Argo 41: At Maine East, Brad Cherry and Leighsean Triplett scored 17 and 16 points, respectively, as the Eagles picked up their first win in the tournament.

Matt Ott added 11 points for Lakes (2-9, 1-1 tourney), which plays Chicago Bulls Prep at 6 p.m. Friday.

Lake Zurich 65, Pekin 55: At Pekin, J.R. Cison scored 24 points, and the Bears won their tournament opener to put an end to their nine-game losing streak.

Will Tucker (13 points), Austin LePage (12) and Matt McGraw (10) also scored in double figures for Lake Zurich (3-10), which hit nine 3-pointers. Tucker made a trio of 3s, while Cison, LePage and Joe Lococo each sank a pair.

Lake Zurich plays United Township at 12:45 p.m. Friday.

Carmel 83, Confluence Prep (Mo.) 51: At Centralia, Johnny Roeser scored 21 points, Damone Williams-Gray added 18, and the Corsairs opened tournament action with their fourth win in a row.

Carmel (10-4) also got 9 points apiece from Kimahri Wilson and Syone Usma-Harper. Kylen Beals chipped in 8 points for the Corsairs.

Bloomington 68, Warren 55: At Pontiac, the Blue Devils lost their tournament opener, despite Adnan Sarancic's 15 points and 9 rebounds.

Warren (4-6) also received 12 points from Tavion McCarthy and 10 apiece from Sawyer Shrake and Cole Thompson. McCarthy sank a pair of 3-pointers.

Chicago Bulls Prep 56, Vernon Hills 50: At Maine East, the Cougars fell to 0-2 in tournament action.

Vernon Hills (2-12) plays Argo at 6 p.m. Friday.

Marengo 52, Wauconda 41: At Marengo, the Bulldogs fell to 1-1 in the E.C. Nichols tournament.

Benji Chung scored 11 points to lead Wauconda (4-7).

Central A&M 82, Antioch 55: The Sequoits lost their opening game in The Christmas Classic, co-hosted by Effingham and Teutopolis.

Antioch (7-4) plays Altamont at 9:30 a.m. Friday.

Streamwood 70, Grant 65: At Jacobs, Tavarus Williams scored 20 points and Hunter Waszkowski had 18, but the Bulldogs lost their second game in a row in the Hinkle Holiday Classic.

Torren Curry added 14 points for Grant (7-7, 1-2 tourney), which plays Payton Prep at 1:30 p.m. Friday.

Stevenson 60, Urban Prep 30: At Hinsdale Central, the Patriots cruised into the consolation semifinals of the Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic.

Stevenson (10-3, 1-1 tournament) scored the game's first nine points and never trailed. The Patriots led 14-2 after one quarter and 30-11 at halftime. Stevenson continued to pull away in the second half, leading 47-20 after three quarters and leading by as many as 33 points.

The Patriots shot 48.8 percent (20 of 41) from the field, including 26.7 percent (4 of 15) from three-point range, won the rebounding battle 35-19 and outscored Urban Prep (0-7) 30-14 in the paint.

Matt Kaznikov finished with 14 points to lead the Patriots, while R.J. Holmes added 11 points and 7 rebounds. Kyree Lewis chipped in 9 points.

Stevenson takes on Richards in Friday's 12:30 p.m. consolation semifinal.

Sycamore 51, Round Lake 34: At Marengo, the Panthers fell to 0-2 in the E.C. Nichols Holiday Classic.

Hakim Williams scored 16 points to lead Round Lake (5-8).
